November 24, 2009 Woody’s is your basic sports bar with multiple TVs a-blaring, many blockheaded frat boys a-cursing and many good beers a pouring. Not bad and the incredible prices - which, for me, were very reasonable. Woody’s has a great location amid Raleigh’s City Market and several shaky steps away from the aforementioned WBF. Of course, I suspect it a popular venue throughout the Raleigh Beer Year.
It is large, dark and loud; the restrooms are reached through a circuituous maze that takes one through the dining area and past the kitchen. The bar, however, is a large area and one is never too tightly packed. And the beer selection was very decent (not like the one at Flying Saucer, but still respectable). Many interesting local brews. Having sampled many at WBF gave me the chance to try them in a plastic cup. All in all, a comfortable place to quaff a few.

December 20, 2007 [ Updated March 3, 2009 ] Food is fairly good. Scene is interesting mix of professional downtown lawyers and the people they represent/prosecute. Some seasonal local beers on tap, decent selection of nationionally recognized good beers on tap and some very good beers in the bottle. I play trivia on tuesdays (sometimes also Thursdays) at 6:30pm. All in all, a great place. Even with heavy smoke. |
