10 reviews for Tap and Mallet
jeremyb (1), Henrietta, New York does not count - explanation | | November 13, 2009 One of the best bars in Rochester. Go there a couple times and the staff knows you and what you like to drink. The beer changes daily, so check their webpage for up to date information. | | zach8270 (32), Henrietta, New York | | October 22, 2009 Really nice beer selection. Lots of quality taps and a really good bottle selection. Always have something different on that I’ve never had before. Decor is much better than the old MacGregor’s. Good atmosphere. Food’s standard bar food, at least what I’ve had, but the staff is really good about talking beer. Good place and highly recommended if you like good beer. | | DeadGirl (35), West Palm Beach, Florida | | October 12, 2009 My favorite bar in all of Rochester. My friends and I will try out different beers while lounging in the corner playing darts. A really nice, cozy atmosphere that draws laid-back people. Paintings of faces on the wall kinda wierd me out, though. And if the dart board is taken up, better hope your with good company or the place could seem a little boring. I’ve never had that problem though. Like I said, this bar attracts cool beer enthusiasts who come for the hops and malt (T&M has an outstanding selection). If beer isn’t for you, then there’s no reason to chill here as it’s the beer that sets it far apart from its counterparts. #11 on 12102009 DG. | | DaSilky1 (45), San Diego, California | | September 6, 2009 I liked this place...Beer selection was pretty good to a west-coaster...could have drank shit I’ve never had for another 5 or 6 hours...Somewhat cozy atmosphere...chill. Would definitely go back next time Im in rochester. The bartender told me that he thought duvel groen was way better than regular duvel, going as far to say that regular duvel was akin to molson. Both of those statements results in lower scores for service, as attentive as he may have been. | archbishopben (2), Rochester, New York does not count - explanation | | March 8, 2009 Certainly one of the best beer selections in the Rochester area and the service is definitely way better than the Old Toad. Apparently the food is pretty decent, all I’ve tried are the wings and they were pretty good...not hot enough though. | | Sammy (273), Toronto, Ontario | | August 18, 2008 A very good beer bar with lots of tap selection, great service and environment. Fifteen taps, with a few great national choices and mostly New York local fare. Good glass selection that’s hand washed. A few niro taps, mostly good carbonation input. Gorgeous and new wood and artwork, the altter based on Van Gogh. A few patio tables. Reviving area. Improvement suggestions: a bit more variety in cask. Up to date tap list on the web is spot on. Very motivated and friendly staff. This is an up and coming place.
| homebrewer302 (6), Wilmington, does not count - explanation | | July 12, 2008 This is one of the best beer bars I’ve been into in a long time. Stopped here while on a business trip in Rochester, NY. The bar is located where McGreggors used to be. The place has been completely redone and is gorgeous. There are about 30 taps that are constantly rotating, keeping the beer fresh. There may be other places that have a larger tap selection (not many), but these guys are constantly rotating their beers to increase the variety. Sampled a Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout and a Lagunitas Olde Gnarly Wine both on tap! Finished with a Trappistes Rochefort 10, which is rare to find at a non-belgian beer bar. Had the bangers and mash for dinner which were probably the best of my life. Skipp’s in Greece, NY makes sausage specially for Tap and Mallet that cannot be purchased outside of the bar. The bartenders are very knowledgable of the beer they are pouring, and are constantly tasting the taps so that they know what to suggest to customers. This place really is a top knotch establishment and a great addition to the greater Rocherster area. | | jb (14), Rochester, New York | | June 11, 2008 Great selection, only been there once, so don’t know if it rotates. Like the ambience, art work and staff. Also seems to be a place of choice for young ladies, FWIW, though maybe they’ve moved on by now. The main problem when I was there is it was packed, especially the bar area and it was very difficult to get beer. A large problem if you came to drink beer. | ZedOmega (5), Rochester, New York does not count - explanation | | May 28, 2008 My new favorite in town. Since the service is 100% better than the Toad, it’s easily taken over as my favorite between the 2. The owners Joe McBane and Casey Walpert have both outdone themselves with T&M. The inside is all new, but designed to look classy and unique instead of suburban/mall pub tacky. I find the wooden slat-topped stools in the bar leave my butt wishing for padding after 15 minutes, but all the other seating is very comfortable. The draft selection is excellent and varied as is the bottle choice. I’m disappointed that there’s only 1 cask line, but I’ll happily live with it! They offer samples of drafts which of course is very nice. The staff really hustles around the place but it has never made me feel rushed, just well served. I’ve eaten every time I’ve gone and the food has ranged from OK to excellent. Overall it’s a fantastic edition to Rochester. I’ll be making many visits. | | blipp (21), Newark, New Jersey | | May 8, 2008 [ Updated May 14, 2008 ] Nice new place in South Wedge where the old MacGregors used to be. Very contemporary/upscale look with strange art and music. Food was good enough. Great beer selection. One on cask, about 30 on tap, including some Belgian and English beers. The house beer is an English bitter brewed by Custom Brewcrafters and is actually pretty good. Definitely worth stopping in. |
