| matta (91), Tampa, Florida | | November 29, 2009 What an amazing operation! Without doubt the cleanest brewery & shrine to brewing history I have ever experienced. The Anchor tap room that is open only for tours is splendid. It is filled with vintage brewery paraphernalia from around the world. Looking at that alone can keep you busy for 15-20min. Fritz office was right outside the tap room, his door was open and he was sitting there somewhat overseeing the daily business. In all, this was truly a tour that makes you feel a part of American brewing history. If you’re a beer-geek and in San Fran, this tour is a Must Do, regardless of what your wife says! | warfar67 (1), Colorado does not count - explanation | | November 8, 2009 What an amazing operation! One of the coolest buildings for a brewery that I have ever seen. | excalibur (8), Louisville, Kentucky does not count - explanation | | October 25, 2009 We signed up for the tour months in advance and we are so glad we did as space fills up fast. Two very knowledgeable and friendly employees, Andy and Molly took a group of about 15 of us on an interesting and informative tour. The two large copper fermenting tanks are beautiful. There is great history about this brewery. After the tour, sampling all their beers was a treat in a comfortable room with lots of memorabillia. We also enjoyed talking to our guides and the quests. They also have great merchandise for sale and many old pictures of the brewery. A wonderful experience. | | PaulUnwin (15), Pinellas Park, | | September 1, 2009 I went to the brewery in 2004 and it was a great trip to one of my favourite cities, and beers. Anchor Steam was the first beer I drank when I came to the US on vacation in 91. So I have fond memories, The tour was great, they were very enthusiastic about the brewing and beer. When I go back to SF, I will do the tour again. The tour ends in the tasting room which is styled like a lot of the old pubs downtown. The wife doesn’t drink beer, so I got my fill!! | BigDUK (9), , England does not count - explanation | | August 28, 2009 Toured on the 29th July 09. Booked over 2 months in advance and just got on! The building is fairly modern and unassuming; you’d never guess it’s a brewery from the exterior (no signs or visible clues to mention, even the taxi driver had no idea it was here!). The tour guide (Andrew I think) was very informative, detailing the company history and its relatively recent rebirth. Seeing the 3 beautiful coppers tuns near the start of the process to the bottling to the all important tasting after the tour was great. A great tour for those interested in either the company or brewing in general. And its free! | | AgentSteve (62), SF Bay Area, California | | August 5, 2009 Great atmosphere with loads of history. Pretty much all the Anchor brews on tap. | | wavers1 (32), novato, California | | August 3, 2009 rbsg tour 2009. pretty cool place, impressive due to the fact its so old and run right in the heart of the city. cool old building, the full selection of anchor brews. however, they don’t sell their oba ale or ol portero whiskey on site. wek sos. tour lets you get right up to everything, they have a lab on premesis, very cool. def worth a stop as there is a lot of history here, even though it was somewhat misrepresented in the tour on some aspects. hop room is cool, everything is cool! | | SamGamgee (89), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California | | August 2, 2009 Went on the tour during RBSG09. Anchor is just what it is, and i like it. The old memorabilia in the tasting room, copper brewhouse, open fermenter room, lab technicians in white coats... there is a lot of cool stuff. The place is old school and does what it knows how to do, but the beer is all well made, with a couple of above-average examples. Samples are free, so you can’t complain about value. The bottle collection of Our Special Ale is pretty sweet. This place is like a surreal walk back in time. I would definitely not want to miss this if I was in the city. | | KyotoLefty (132), Kyoto, Japan | | August 1, 2009 We couldn’t book at tour slot, so we just showed up to look around and see what happened. Watching our sad faces as the tour left, an office lady there told us just to join them. The best brewery tour yet for me: 20 minutes looking at the beautiful brewhouse with straightforward explanation, then straight to the tasting room for all those great Anchor beers. Fabulous. Would go time and time again. | COoperator (1), Alabama does not count - explanation | | July 30, 2009 Excellent way to spend a day in san francisco. The people couldnt be friendlier and the tour was very interesting. I loved it. |
