| daknole (90), Plantation, Florida | | November 7, 2009 Holy shit this place is beer heaven. Jonpol rocks. Hell yeah man. | | Sparky27 (16), Phoenix, Arizona | | October 23, 2009 Unfortunately for the Glendale store, Jonpol took his mojo with him to Snotsdale. Great selection, huge refrigerated beer display and great service. A must visit if you’re ever in the area. One of the top 3 beer stores in Metro Phoenix. | BOLTZ7555 (6), Phoenix, Arizona does not count - explanation | | July 26, 2009 One of the largest refrigerated beer selections in the valley...and if it is highly rated, Jonpol has it. Can’t beat the service and knowledge he brings. For selfish reasons, wish he never left the Glendale location but heading out there is always worth the drive. | | yemenmocha (61), Glendale, Arizona | | April 23, 2009 Easy to locate and conveniently just a couple miles off the 101 in Scottsdale. Best refrigerated section of bottles in the Valley. Great advice from the beer manager, and good access to rare beers that are hard to find elsewhere. Some of the places in Tempe may have comparable bottle selections but they are NOT refrigerated and it shows. Virtually 100% of product is refrigerated here at AJ’s.
Prices are in line with other specialty beer stores in the valley.
Good hours too. I’m glad I don’t have to wait until 2:00 to buy beer here. | thefrutigers (7), , Arizona does not count - explanation | | March 21, 2009 A little bit hard to find, but excellent selection of hard to find breweries and beers. Have many of the beers with tags rated from this website so you know the good ones if you see something that interests you. My only complaint is value AJ’s has great selection, but you pay for it. That might not be a bad thing to some.
| Tora (1), Tempe, Arizona does not count - explanation | | January 25, 2009 In the Valley area there are several great places to buy beer (Sun Devil/Tops, Papago Brewing, the Plaza) this particular AJs stands out because of its cellar master Jonpol.
While he doesn’t necessarily have anything that can’t be gotten elsewhere it is certainly treated better than Sun Devil or Tops and his stock is never expired. His stock is somewhat limited by Sun Devil standards, but he takes a all kill no filler approach to his stock.
Service at AJs is either stellar if Jonpol is there, or non-existent, so keep that in mind when you head out there. | | ajm (160), Los Angeles, California | | December 17, 2008 Reminded me a lot of Papago and Sun Devil put together, but a little less exciting than both. I can think of only a couple quality bottles this location has on the two of them - Cuvee De Ranke and Rose Hibiscus at time of printing - though I will acknowledge a more varied local reach here. In all, I would be excited for this location once it develops a flavor and a distinct trademark. Until then, the drive from anywhere but North Scottsdale is a bit much. | | hellbilly (64), scottsdale über alles, Arizona | | September 30, 2008 [ Updated October 1, 2008 ] jp’s new digs.... i got 32 feet more for beer, sasquatch! anywhere he’s at has one of the best selections in town... rarities, vintages and exclusives... close to me and it’s only getting better. | | SuperDave70 (14), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona | | September 20, 2008 Visited this location for the first time to get The Dissident. Walked out with a boxful of other great stuff! If you happen to visit when Jonpol is there, you will get the most helpful, friendliest service you have ever experienced in a beer store. And, even if he is not there, there is still a great selection, all available by the bottle. Fantastic, and only going to get better! | | nbutler11 (69), Phoenix, Arizona | | September 11, 2008 Finally made it up here today to pick up some Mikkeller Black, It’s Alive, and Dieu du Ciel. That said, Jonpol’s presence is already being felt at this location, which boasts a selection that currently resembles a combination of Plaza in Tucson and Papago. The store itself is a little retro and tucked away in NE Scottsdale, but has plenty of potential, so I imagine that this location will only get better with time. |
