| Braudog (478), Dayton, Ohio | | November 30, 2009 November 2009. This joint has an awesome location, right across the street from the old Lemp brewery. But IMHO the potential is wasted inside with a dank dark interior not well put together at all. The small brewery is behind glass in a corner. Even at early evening, they were turning good business which was a good sign. We sidled up to the bar and once we finally got the attention of the bartender the service was OK. Had an appetizer which was excellent. The two (of four) house beers were average but drinkable. Besides their own, they sported a hell of a good guest draft and bottle list -- So, worth a stop now and again. | | Dogbrick (218), Columbus, Ohio | | August 28, 2009 (Visited 09/2008:) The Stable is located on the SW side of St. Louis on Cherokee, not too far from I-55. I stopped on the way back to the STL airport hoping to find a brewpub but evidently they have yet to finalize their license to brew on premise. There is street parking in all directions.
The sorrounding area has a warehouse district feel and it carries over to The Stable. Definitely an industrial look on the outside, and the inside is open and spacious with high ceilings. They have several ornate chandeliers, mirrors and antiques, and there is wood everywhere. The small brewing room is behind glass toward the rear, as is the bar. The rest of the space is devoted to table seating.
There are around 25 taps with selections such as Charleville, O’Fallon, Bell’s, Schlafly etc. The bottle list is fairly robust with selections from Charleville, Rogue, etc. A decent amount of imports as well, particularly from Russia.
Service was good on a weekday lunch. My server doubled as the bartender and filled me in on the brief history of the place and what their plans were for brewing.
Pizza was the recommendation for lunch and it was a good one. They have some unique choices for toppings and I was pleased.
Overall I will plan on making a return trip here when they are able to brew their own beer. Even without that option it is a worthwhile visit.
| | Strykzone (40), Wood River, Illinois | | May 31, 2009 Having been there about a half dozen times it is past time to rate The Stable. This bar/brewpub/restaurant has one of the best beer menus around. They work hard at changing it frequently and always have hard to get stuff that is of the highest quality. They just began brewing their own beer and are doing lagers. I had their Helles which was nice, but still a lager. Food is fantastic. Try the jerk chicken pizza. Fantastic and unique. We almost always have Jeff as our waiter and he is so good! Knows his beer, too as does the entire staff. This is my most visited place to get great beer and great food. Always a delight. | | lizziec (10), , | | April 7, 2009 Amazing draft selection, always can count on a couple of Bells on tap and many other goodies. Pizza is their strong point in food. Food is good service is good but the beer is the reason to go. | | Illinijs (11), | | February 10, 2009 Great place with a very good selection of taps. They say that they seek out smaller brewers, so there is a good chance you’ll find something you haven’t had. | | Apollo (10), | | February 3, 2009 Best draft list in St. Louis, always changing with great beer. Not like most places with the same beers everywhere. The service is sometimes slow, but it is worth the wait. | sampx (1), , Missouri does not count - explanation | | January 25, 2009 One of the best beer selections for St Louis area. Hopefully will have their own beer by Feb ’09 | | BrewCzar (19), St Louis, Missouri | | August 21, 2008 Great ambiance in and older brick bulding near the Anheuser Busch brewery in south St Louis. I had a great laugh when I heard the waiter state that they didn’t carry AB products. 30+ bottles on their beer list including Southern Tier, Left Hand, Avery, Rogue, Chimay, and many others. 24 beers on tap. I had the Hoptimus, Hopmouth and Old Rasputin at $4,$5,$ and $8 respectively for a 20oz pour. Very good service. A slight twist on the normal bar food found around the St Louis area. Still not brewing or distilling, but I will be going back. | | BeerandBlues2 (159), Colorado Springs, Colorado | | July 22, 2008 This place is pretty cool despite being a few weeks out from brewing and distilling. They have a nice selection of beers on tap and in bottle, enough to whet the appetite. The food is very good and service was excellent. Do not worry about the neighborhood as you are heading this way it gets worse before it gets better. Lots of history in this building and nice to see someone taking an interest in preserving that. | | thegreenrooster (39), St.louis, Missouri | | July 12, 2008 Omlooper’s rating pretty much describes this place. Walking in you can tell someone put a lot of time and effort in this place. A few tables up front with a distellery on the right and a brew house on the left. (they did not have anything they made there available yet.). 20 beers on tap and some in bottles. Decent menu with grinders and pizza. Service was good but this for lunch on a slow Saturday afternoon but they had plenty of people working there. I will deffinatly make this a place to stop by more often as its only about 2 miles from my house and i have to pass by it coming home from work. My one and only knock on the place is the glassware. Everything is servied in a 20oz glass. Trying to get down a 20oz Old Rasputin can be tough. |
