| Capa (82), Yokosuka, Japan | | June 1, 2008 I wouldn’t have visited frigo except for TimE’s recommendation glad I listened. Went there around 10:00 on a Friday night and it was crowded even though it had been raining all day. Nice size for a Tokyo beer bar. Plenty of Belgian, German, Trappist, and other European brews in their coolers. I didn’t even look at what they had on tap because the bottle selection was too good to miss. Plenty of breweries I’ve never seen before and beers from breweries I know but wasn’t expecting to see in Japan. Had proper glassware which is always nice. A bit pricey, but for Shinjuku I wasn’t all that surprised. | | hogfodder (34), Seattle, Washington | | February 19, 2008 Really liked this place. Best ambiance in Tokyo. Beautiful to look at while washing it down with tasty Belgians. Very strong bottle selections, nice menus, and great glassware. They’ve definitely got the formula down. Staff was very helpful. Underground & cavernous, Frigo has great low lighting. Their back-stock beer storage was cleverly on display, behind gothic iron locked gates, almost as if they were imprisoned. All the beers we had there we spot on condition-wise, but I had to wonder about the back-bottle storage a bit, which was not refrigerated. I’m sure it helps to be underground, but still not ideal storage over time. Overall, I could see myself hanging out here quite a bit if I were in town more. Great location. | | TimE (130), Tokyo, Japan | | October 12, 2007 My favorite Belgian beer bar in Tokyo. Argueably (or not), Tokyo’s busist Belgian beer bar. Good luck getting a table on the weekends, though there are tables for standing and drinking while you wait. This places is bigger than Belgo and is great for groups. Same concept, choose a beer from the fridge pay at the counter. They specially import several beers, so expect to see some very rare stuff. At one time they had Westy 12, Chimay Black, Westmalle Extra and Ovral Petite.
They have five standard taps, including Chimay White, plus a Belgian (sometimes German) guest tap that rotates weekly. Very popular with foreigners for some reason. Oddly, I find myself here probably more than any other beer bar in town too! |
