17 reviews for Swans Hotel (Buckerfield Brewing)
| BrewDad (239), Olympia, Washington | | October 1, 2009 Buckerfields brewing was a neat place to visit on the top of the place was a hotel Swans and this was a neat old building. We stopped at the bar and had a few of the beers this was the night before the GCBF. We had a Coconut porter which could have used more of the famed Coconut but was still tasty never less. The Swans Oatmeal Stout was pure heaven and I was hoping to remember to bring some back to the states. The service was great and they talked the beers up quite a bit. The also told us of several other places to visit while in town that also had great beers. I think this was one of the best places to visit the Raspberry ale to finish off the night was actually very good and fruit. This is a must stop in Victoria. | | beermagnet (14), Quebec | | September 29, 2009 nice place, if you sit outside, in the ’patio’ the beer is good, and they have some evening great jazz band | | Poperinge (119), Cowtown, Alberta | | July 12, 2009 Had a nice IPA here, the food was bad may go to drink again but I would pass on eating here. | | turboespresso (13), Port Moody, British Columbia | | July 9, 2009 Nice historic hotel with character. Decent service. Selection comparable to most BC brewpubs. Food was decent. I got the impression that this was a bit of a cougar bar. Meow! | | Goldorak (110), Montreal, Quebec | | October 22, 2008 Interesting décor, to say the least. You feel almost in the lobby of an old art deco hotel. What really floored us was the large, looming painted portrait of Pierre-Elliott Trudeau not too far from the bar. With his haughty, condescending grin, I felt like he was staring straight at me, calling me a hotdog eater and telling to “foodoo-boodoo ma gang de tabarnak”. Honest to God, it really fazed me. At least at the few other pubs we poked in on our quickie tour of Victoria, we had Lizzie the second’s austere yet grandmotherly likeness welcoming us in. Thankfully we sat down at a table where I couldn’t see him, so it didn’t ruin it all for me. Other than that, the place was quite charming, along with the rest of the city for that matter. They were about to clear away our section to make room for the band, something not everyone likes in a brewpub, but I think it’s great. What else…I found it strange to have the toilets protected by a code lock, but it wasn’t the only pub I’ve been to on this trip that had this “feature”. Service was prompt and I got my sampler tray quickly. Selections ranged from uninspired to somewhat interesting, with nothing really catching my eye, save perhaps the Scottish ale that had interesting smokiness to it. It stood out from the rest, but I had better. Didn’t get to try any food either. But it was a fun place to visit in good company (certain former prime ministers excluded), if only for a few tasters. | | pantani (65), Salinas, California | | July 9, 2008 Went for lunch. Got the chowder and it had carrots in it which was weird but it was ok. Beer was pretty decent. Service was good. | | presario (105), Calgary, Alberta | | September 10, 2007 Went there for Friday lunch and Saturday breakfast. Busy both days. Service a tad slow as it was all over Victoria. Lots of beers though not too adventerous. Food was good. | | Nate (194), Indiana, Pennsylvania | | July 26, 2007 Stopped in to try a sampler after the lunch crowd. Good service, beers were fair. Menu looked fine but I didn’t eat there. In convenient location if you’re on foot from the Washington ferry (a little more easy to get to than Spinnakers). | | mgermani (15), Vancouver, British Columbia | | July 4, 2007 Nice decor, we were served quickly and in a friendly manner. The beer is better (arguably) than Spinnakers, and the food is more affordable and still tastes good. We were forgotten for a while by the serving staff, but otherwise a pleasant experience. | | bhensonb (287), Woodland, California | | June 29, 2007 Hit this at a busy time. Hard to find seats, hard to get service. Noisy. Venue was sort of over modernized restoration. Other than that the food was pretty good, and the ales were more than worth the effort. Shouldn’t miss this one. |
