| Kinz (33), Glen Allen, Virginia | | October 9, 2009 Very happy to be able to visit this place. Wow. Great selection from all over the place, including quite a few items that I haven’t seen elsewhere in the state. Kevin the Beer Guy was there as well, and I have to say it was really nice being able to talk so someone who as totally passionate about his product and knows the beers themselves inside and out. I’ll repeat - Ratebeer shelf talkers on practically everything. Not just the 95+ beers, I’m talking almost everything. I spotted a shelf talker with a giant 68 on it. Talk about being up front! A beer selection run by a beer geek for beer geeks. From now on, I will always, always make this a stop when I’m in the area. | | dkachur (114), Charlottesville, Virginia | | July 20, 2009 [ Updated October 9, 2009 ] Stopped by here before Immy’s big gathering on 7/18/09. It’s in a strip mall location which sucks for ambience but is great for parking. Even so, the ambience is pretty cool too. Large space... the front is filled with craft items and the left side of the store is wine, but on the right there is a very ample beer selection. Lots of selections from everywhere including some rarer items. Decent selections of Belgians, including lambics, U.S. beers with others thrown in. Good variety. No macro. Glassware selection is very small but has good selections. I believe both of the people there were owners of the place and both were very friendly. Kevin, the beer guy, is on Ratebeer as GandGKevin and is very nice and very honest about the brews, even going so far as to include Ratebeer shelf tags for bad beers. Prices are just a tick above average but they offer a 10% discount on mixed cases that more than makes up for it. I hear from the locals that this is it as bottle shops go in the area, aside from a Total Wine or two, so stop here. It’s rare that you get to support a cool Ratebeerian and visit an awesome store at the same time. | | TheBeerGod (97), Newport News, Virginia | | May 24, 2009 [ Updated November 14, 2009 ] Finally got here on 5-23-09. In a word, WOW! Awesome selection of beer arranged by country and brewery, for the most part. Seemingly gets stuff that other places in southeast VA can’t get. Everything has a Ratebeer shelf tag. They do tastings on Thursdays. It’s kind of a haul for me during the week, but after visiting I’ll have to put it high on my list come back for the tastings. The staff is, well, AWESOME! Kevin is very friendly and helpful as is Deborah. Very informed as to what’s going on with beer in the area, as well. He even gave me a bottle of Lost Abbey Gift of the Magi! Doesn’t get much better than that. Great place, great beer and great people make this the go-to spot on the southside! | seadad (1), , Virginia does not count - explanation | | April 25, 2009 Great store, the wall of beer (plus a few tables) consistently has a wide selection. New brands & types are frequently rotated into the favorites that are always there. The owner has been behind the counter every time i have been there, he and the rest of the staff are very helpful in picking out new varieties to try. | | zizzybalubba (33), Elizabeth City, North Carolina | | April 5, 2009 This store has a great layout with easy to find bottles. Each beer usually has the Rate Beer shelftag below it so that you know whether the beer is rated well. The service is the best. Kevin knows more about beer than anyone I have encountered at any other store. Grape & Gourmet’s selection is only limited by what is available to them by the distributors. Easily the best place in SE Virginia to buy beer and one of the best anywhere. | whatalesya (6), , North Carolina does not count - explanation | | March 27, 2009 [ Updated March 28, 2009 ] Tremendous selection, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Being from a small town in another state, the pricing seems a bit high, but maybe it’s in line with the area. If I’m in Va. Beach again, G&G will definitely get repeat business from me. | | Radek Kliber (26), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario | | February 24, 2009 [ Updated August 6, 2009 ] Number one choice when in Virginia Beach. Stuff is very friendly and helpful. It was great to see weekly beer tastings. Selection is constantly expanding. | philoneaus (4), , Virginia does not count - explanation | | February 13, 2009 best beer selection in 757 | jdunlow49 (1), , Virginia does not count - explanation | | September 19, 2008 Best beer selection I’ve found in Hampton roads... so excited to have a variety like thisclose by. the staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. well organized. a must visit for the beer tastings on thurs. and the rare finds updated regularly. | | ucusty (53), Wake Forest, North Carolina | | July 14, 2008 Stopped by in early june from raleigh and met kevin, what great guy. Quite knowledgeable. Went in to spend 20 bucks ended up spending 50. great place! |
