| dmac (27), Toms River, New Jersey | | January 29, 2009 The beer selection is quite solid here but not sure about how fresh everything is since there is constantly a giant stack of beers on the sales floor. And by giant stack I’m not talking about a display of a particular brewery or certain type of beer but just actual stacks of beer that appear to have been recently, or maybe not so recently, delivered. Selection is usually solid with a good amount of import craft beers..Mikkeller, O’Hara’s, Rochefort, Dieu du Ciel, St. Bernardus, Abbaye de Rocs, Nogne O, uhm Baltika to name a few of the top of my head. All the local craft breweries are represented and usually a suprise or two thrown in. Prices are always on the high side. Not crazy high but somewhere in the neighborhood of a buck a bomber or six pack. Worth checking out if your in the area. Well that is if you can find it. | | willblake (61), Belcamp, Maryland | | November 16, 2005 [ Updated January 3, 2006 ] Like the JR in Brielle, this is < 5 miles from home and I visit frequently. Surprisingly different selection from the Brielle store, this location if focused more on single bottles, 750s, more Belgies, and still has most of the good beer kept out of the cooler. Unfortunately, this store is very bright in the aisles; luckily, the staff there has no interest in keeping the bottles clean so most of them acquire a thick sheet of dust and grime which probably helps keep out nasty UV rays. I’ve found the beer to be in good shape most of the time
The lineup isn’t as full as the Brielle store in regards to east coast brews, but it’s not bad. Always a solid selection of whatever season’s seasonals are out, especially the festbiers, pumpkins, and summers.
Ratebeer shelftalkers are a nice touch. And they usually have at least a few beers worth picking up.
Again, only worth visiting if you’re stuck in the area and can’t get to Spirits in Red Bank. It’s the best around, but that’s not saying much. Update: there seems to be a new beer sheriff in town, and he’s eager and excited to fill the shelves with a good selection. Here’s hoping! I bumped the score. |
