| fordest (62), Santee/San Diego, California | | September 17, 2008 Definitely a very nice selection of beer here on tap and in the bottle. Found a few things that I cannot get in San Diego, so that was a plus. Austin was a very cool and generous guy. Had a nice time chatting with him and FlacoAlto who was cool enough to stop by and meet me for a couple of pints. I like this place.
| cleoschyck (1), Tucson, Arizona does not count | | July 29, 2008 Far and away the best selection of draught microbrews in Tucson. Austin knows his beer and is open to suggestions. Food selection is limited, but really quite good. Can be awfully noisy at times, but that’s because people are starting to realize that this place offers something that they just can’t get anywhere else in town. This is still a relatively new business and they’re working out the occasional kink. Seriously, though, if you have a problem (poor service or whatever), make sure one of the owners (Austin or Eric) hears about it. They respond well and really want to know about it so they can fix it. This is a neat place and deserves the chance to make a go of it. | | bleeng (45), Spring near Beersel , Texas | | July 28, 2008 Great little bar near UA. Nice selection of 46 taps-no macros. Avery 14 and 15, Alesmith Grand Cru and two Lost Abbey offerings among others. Small food selection-mostly pizza. The parking is minimal. Austin was a gracious host and really has a good handle on the beer situation here. A must stop when in Tucson. | Bocce (1), Arizona does not count | | May 15, 2008 1702 has increased to 46 taps, all microbrews and Belgians. Staff has been increased, and hours have settled down to a regular schedule. 1702 can really be packed sometimes, people are finding out this is the greatest selection of beer in Arizona. There are two owners, Austin really knows his beer and holds a beer judging class (by enrollment only) every week, and slowly the other owner, Eric, is learning! | igor (1), does not count | | March 27, 2008 After hearing so much about the place, we decided to pay a visit. We were ignored when we walked in. We seated ourselves, then were still ignored. Two waitresses walked by and avoided eye contact with us. We waited and waited...still no service. On the way out, we were still ignored and they didn’t seem to care that we were leaving.. So, we decided to spend our hard earned money elsewhere. | | cbkschubert (31), Rattlesnake Country, Arizona | | February 5, 2008 Parking can be hit or miss, depending on whats going on in the area. We were there for Stone night and the place was full. Service can be a little suspect. I don’t think they expected the crowd that evening. The beer selection was good. A decent selection of US mircos and imports. The food was pretty good (had the pizza and salad). Prices are average. I think this place could eventually turn out to be the best beer bar in town. Just needs a little tweeking. Stop by if you are in the U of A area. | | DoubleBubble (12), Mescal Lakes (wherever that is), Arizona | | January 24, 2008 Great food, sucks to get there, at least from Benson. Especially on a Uof A game nite. Good beer selection. Service was okay, but we didn’t see our waitress very often, and she forgot our waters. Owner knows little about beer(self admitted). But overall worth a try. Parking is a little limited also. | highibus (7), Vail, Arizona does not count | | December 5, 2007 Great place for pizza and great beer. Not as many taps as they once had, but still a stellar selection. Unfortunately, one owner Karl is no longer there (don’t know what happened) he was a champion of great beer. Service can sometimes be an issue and the occasional frosted glass. But great beer and pizza and salads are great. | infinitetease (3), Tucson, Arizona does not count | | November 21, 2007 Local Dough’s name has changed to 1702, but the awesome beer and pizza remain.
Excellent selection of beers on tap. Stone, Dogfish Head, and, many, many others. I even had a Rodenbach there recently. (Heard they are getting a keg of DFH 120 soon.)
1720 also offers a small but interesting array of bottled beers.
This is a place for real beer. No Bud, Miller, Coors, etc.
Service has been excellent whenever I’ve been there. The owner, Austin, knows and loves beer, and really tries to accomodate his patrons.
The lunch special is excellent and the pizza slices are HUGE.
| ragesaq (4), Arizona does not count | | August 13, 2007 [ Updated July 13, 2008 ] Ok, I had a review before of this place back when I first started going there, and it has grown a lot. I’ll preface this updated review with a disclaimer that I am now a regular.
Its popularity has also grown quite a bit, so sometimes it can get a bit packed, but I’ve never gone (and I go twice a week usually) and not been able to get a table.
They are up to about 46 or 48 beers on tap, and its always the best of the best. Stone, Dogfishhead, Avery, Great Divide, Ska, Rodenbach, St Bernadus, Port, the list goes on. Additionally Austin (one of the owners) works all the brewers into having special event nights featuring that brewery. When he does this they generally bring in some shwag (glasses, shirts, etc) and some special kegs to put on tap.
Example: Stone night this last March 2008 had Stone 10th Anniversary IPA, 11th Anniversary, 2005 Old Guardian, 2005 Double Bastard, 2005 Russian Imperial Stout, Ruination and Oaked Bastard. Stone reps were on hand and gave out prizes and all sorts of good stuff.
One of the downsides in how much they have grown is they have limited their food selection a bit more from what it was previously. You can still get the some of the best pizza & calzones around town here, but only wings, salads and occasional special appetizers are the alternatives. The wings come in a fantastic and often rotating sauces and the salads are super primo.
The service, people that work there, and overall laid back good time attitude that is had there really makes this place the tops.
This place is hands down the best place in town to go for a beer. | View Page : 1 2
