84 The reviews below pretty much have it right. I don’t have any real need to say anything more. But, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that, right now, Zachary’s has my vote for #1 pizza joint in Tucson. |
86 No sign, no air-conditioning (evaporative cooling only), no televisions, no overhead music, no apologies. That’s really the way it should be.
Zach’s was a lunch destination for me while I worked at UA and a beer destination for the after work time. Taps included some very good standards but also some that were changed out periodically. Missing are the pisswater varieties and relegated to bottles are things like Corona and Killian’s. You can get all of that next door.
During my years in Tucson, nothing changed about this place. They still have their great lunch special (huge slice, good salad and a soda for ~$6), their very good daily beer specials, and their friendly, homey service. |
82 Really hard to find with virtually no signage. The pizzas are great chicago style. You can buy it by the slice which proably weighs more than most medium pizzas at other places. A small draft selection of about 8 handles but really good selection with hoppy and belgian beers available. The best part is the crazy pitcher prices. $16 for a pitcher of triple karmieliet? amazing. |
78 My favorite hidden gem in Tucson even though its pretty much right on campus. Great service, great pizza, great beer and fair prices. The pizza is spectacular and the beer selection while not big is very good quality. Great place. |
74 Very good deep-dish pizza, with several creative topping combinations. Great selection of about 14-16 on-tap beers, some fixed and some are rotated/seasonal. Very, very casual place. Would recommend if you are a deep-dish pizza fan, a beer fan, or both. |
