| mabel (71), Toronto, Ontario | | September 27, 2008 Visited late on a Thursday evening in February, this tall-ceilinged room was chock full of people and cool mirrors, wooden tables and benches, and noise. The beers were fair, but being there gave us the opportunity to rate the faro and blanche, i.e. something not available in bottles. We tried a cheese platter (which turned out to be a massive block of cheese cut up into cubes) with mustard and sel de celery, pretty tasty in it’s simplicity. Good service but busy and slowed down due to it. An excellent place to finish up our first evening in the country. | | KyotoLefty (81), Kyoto, Japan | | September 21, 2008 Great atmosphere, food simple and pricy. Good beers, though not a huge selection. Stick to their beers and the draughts. Great place to hang for a while, though. | | Scauca (16), Lovere, Italy | | September 5, 2008 Very nice furniture for this historical bar in the center of Bruxelles. You could feel as one of those old dice players drinking a good Mort Subite Geuze on tap. Food is rather good for Belgium standards, the service is quick and fair. Didn’t like other house beers. Little selection of others, especially trappists. | robbja (7), Malmo, Sweden does not count - explanation | | August 2, 2008 I found it!
The Pub and the beer i had been looking for, for 25 years!
La Mort Subite, i read about their Kriek Lambic beer in a bikers magazine in the early 80’s, went to Brussels in 84, but could’nt find the beer.
Went back to Brussels to visit the european parliament in june 2007- and thanks to INTERNET - i found the bar, and had my lifes very first La Mort Subite, Kriek Lambic beer!
I was in heaven!
i also tried La Mort Subite Framboise Lambic and Geuze beer.
Geuze wasn’t for me eaven though i realise that this is the connoisseurs choice.
Framboise Lambic however is almost better than Kriek!
I am longing for whwn i can go back, to my little part of heaven.
A good beer is better than bad sex! | | bhensonb (244), Woodland, California | | June 1, 2008 Long antique hall with lots of tobacco overlay. Narrow rectangular tables set up like a mess hall. Good looking in an old, non-woody way. Tartines are a specialty. We had the ardennes ham. Something like prosciutto. Took quite awhile to get service, but it was quick once we got started. Rather small selection (compared to, say, Delirium Cafe), but it’s a good one. | | beastiefan2k (97), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas | | May 31, 2008 Sits in on an open street away from tourist trap central. Inside is large with and set up cafeteria like with wooden tables and decorated walls. On a lazy Sunday a few people were there as well. Selection is just the major Subites and a few others. I had the faro which I loved and I recommend going there just for it. The waiter jumped on us quickly and did a fine job. The food, I ordered the salami sandwich and god 4 slices and a very large slice of bread. This may have been special in 80s communist Russia, otherwise really disappointing dish. In short: worth a stop if you just happen to walk by it (like me) but don’t go searching for it unless you want the faro (which I recommend). | | FrankJohansen (28), Sabro, Denmark | | May 5, 2008 A standard cafe interior. Lots of different beers on the menu, not only Mort Subites own. Quick and freindly staff. | | Geuzelambix (15), København, Denmark | | April 25, 2008 This is hands down one of my favourite bars. Not because of the selection, the service or the food, but because the awesome interior and ambiance - and let’s not forget the fantastic bowls of fresh gueze on draft. The art nouveau setting is one of a kind. | | Bhops (28), Dallas, Texas | | April 14, 2008 [ Updated August 13, 2008 ] I really enjoyed the feel of this place. Went there on a sunday evening and it was moderately full, but lively, with many locals and tourists alike. Very friendly wait staff, good basic meals (croques and cheeses, etc). Not a huge selection of beers, but good nonetheless. | Case (5), , Germany does not count - explanation | | April 9, 2008 Beautiful Art Nouveau café. Visited it in the evening and it was quite crowded, full of locals. Despite the busy atmosphere I was immediately served by a friendly waitress. Beer-wise their Faro didn’t impress me but I did enjoy their Blanche which was very refreshing. Didn’t try any of the food. Nice atmosphere. | View Page : 1 2 3 4 5
