CafeeOndineke (1), Aalst, Belgium does not count | | August 26, 2008 an example to every establishment as it should be! Looking forward to the beerfestival in september! | | DSG (39), Yuvalim, Israel | | August 18, 2008 The best beer place I’ve ever been to.I came to this place two days in a row and it was definitely not enough. If you come here by train it’s not too close to neither Liedekercke not Denderleeuw station but it’s well worth the 15 mins hike from Liedekercke stations (just walk straight to the center of the village and ask someone there, it’s really close). Service was really good and helpful all the time. The beer list is the best I’ve encountered with loads of Lambics and a long vintage list (you have to ask for it). Some beers I’ve had there: Rodenbach Alexander, De Troch Gueuze, J & J both Roze and Blauw, De Neve Gueuze, an old bottle of Whitbread Extra Stout and a few years old Orval. Unfortunately other beer lovers finished the stock of some of my most wanted Lambics just the week before I got there, but there was still plenty to choose from. Beer prices (even for the rare vintage beers) are really cheap. I’ve had soup and vegeterian lasagna to eat which were very nice. If you don’t eat you get some free cheese with the beer. The beer Pralines are really delicious. Have I said this place is amazing already? | | BrandUP (10), | | June 20, 2008 Thias is an restaurant but not a greatt beer bar. Good food but not nice to drink any beer without food! | | lassem (11), Copenhagen, Denmark | | June 6, 2008 We had some rabbit in guezue - lovely. Went on an expedition in the vintage beer map - and had some that was way to old....but it was fun. The beer list was huge, the service excelent. Ill go there again | | beastiefan2k (97), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas | | June 3, 2008 This is the greatest place in the whole wide world! I would come back to Belgium just to re-visit De Heeren. The food - even without beer I would recommend this place just for food. Me and the gf came here for lunch and decided just to get some salads. Only the most amazing original salads EVER! Smoked salmon, melon and green in a beautiful medley. Compared to NYC prices this is cheaper, better, and more original. Beautiful wooden and rustic interior with lots of Orval around and a bit more brew junk. Music was great as well. The beer list was spectacular, took the J&Js to go plus ask for stuff not on the menu Like de Neve. I love this place. | | Jerre (43), Waregem, Belgium | | May 18, 2008 We are yesterday for the first time (but not the last one) here.
GREAT PLACE !
Good home beers. Perfect selection of beers.
When you are @ Belgium this is really a must to visit ! | | marcus (60), Sacramento, California | | April 5, 2008 Notes from my 2/4/2005 trip. Took train to Denderleuw and a friendly local escorted us to Liedekercke. There’s a nice bar upstairs and 2 floors of restaurant space. We were seated downstairs where we were served an outstanding meal. We ordered many rare beers from the extensive menu. The locals all spoke Flemish but we could see they were amused by the number and quality of beers we consumed during our 3 hour dinner. Great food, great beer, great fun. Missed the last bus and had to stagger back to Denderleuw, but it was well worth the trouble. You won’t find a better beer cafe/restaurant. | | jerc (121), Toronto, Ontario | | March 17, 2008 You’d never expect the wonderful things inside from its location & panoramic view of the gas station across the way... That said, the sign for the neighbouring Dreamland store has an air of prophecy . Menu in Flemish so I am a bit overwhelmed. Waiter has a similar feeling when I ask to recommend something with little input from me. Sensing hesitation I point to Orvaliflette in bold. This meatloaf like dish contains ground meat, bacon, potatoes & Orval beer topped with cheese. It arrives w/ a little mini cream pitcher filled with Orval, my server advises it can be poured over the dish, if I’d like. In my head I’m thinking Are you bleeping kidding me?!? Bleep I love Belgium!, aloud I say Thank you! Dish is delicious but a bit rich by the end of it. Food is Fantastic, the beer list is excellent, including a vintage selection with a number of rarities. Many different vintages of Orval and other trappist brews at very reasonable prices. Dessert is pancakes & ice cream with cherries & kriek sauce. Decent, but I think I would have enjoyed their waffles with the same sauce even more. Starting w/ the house beer, I move on to bottles of Rodenbach Alexander, & Westmalle Extra. The Hagar beer cartoons in the menu are a nice touch. Let me take some of the larger bottles home with me. Just awesome, highly recommended. If you come to Belgium with out coming here you missed out. | | Ughsmash (138), Waukesha, Wisconsin | | January 9, 2008 This was quite likely the most enjoyable beer-related experience I’ve had. With Tim’s help (diabel), we took the train from Brussels to Liedekercke, then made the pilgrimage through town to get there. The restaurant was warm and inviting, and we ended up with the basement to ourselves for most of the evening. I communicated with Joost several months prior to my trip, and he set aside some wonderful beer for me. Tim helped translate the menu, and we were treated to a culinary experience that held up to the world-class beer! As mentioned below, the service is slow and relaxed, but entirely friendly. The J&Js were sublime, and we were even treated to some unlabeled Lindemans Loerik (and the story behind what it is). I just wish we had more time there... | | JoeinUccle (135), Brussels, Belgium | | July 9, 2007 Google Maps sent us on a wacky, zig-zag off-road rally-car course of farm roads and dirt alleyways to get here from the Grote Dorst, which really is not far to the south. Anyway, it was well worth the adventure. We started in the back garden, when the sun was shining. We were famished after getting lost amidst the cows and cycles. Some cheese croquettes pacified us while we perused the vintage beer menu. I settled on a 17-year-old Oerbier slow-sipper that was just gorgeous. Companions went with a year-old Orval and some other interesting things off the main beer menu. The service was quite slow and relaxed, but that was OK--so were we. But if you’re used to American service, it’s something you should be ready for (here or anywhere else in Europe for that matter). They were incredibly nice and, of course, knowledgeable. Eventually the inevitable rains came and they escorted us to a table in the cellar... very nice. My tournedos (beef tenderloin) was pretty lean and tough, but its funky Bruxelloise cheese sauce was something special. Also rave reviews for the stoofvlees (carbonnade) and coq a la biere. The frites were more like American steak fries, good but not up to usual Belgian standards in my opinion. But we can’t wait to head back and try an old gueuze with some of the seafood dishes... | View Page : 1 2 3
