| | DSG (41), Tel Aviv, Israel | | August 18, 2008 I was here during the Night of Great Thirst. They had Eylenbosch Kriek on tap and Eylenbosch Gueuze and Extra Faro in bottles for the event. Me and another guy asked to see the regular beer list and they they showed it to us. A really great list with lots of Lambics from all (or almost all) Lambic makers, some of them are quite rare. We enjoyed a bottle of 05 3 Fonteinen Schaerbeekse Kriek and I took home two Selection Lambic bottles for 25E each as well as an 1984 Eylenbosch Gueuze (AMAZING!) for 10 or 15E. They even took us to their cellar which was a very interesting experience - loads and loads of Lambic bottles all over with an always-slightly-wet floor. Too bad about the very limited opening time, this place is great and should be visited by more beer lovers. | | beastiefan2k (108), Lawrence (formely NYC), Kansas | | June 3, 2008 One of the owners of this place came out on a Monday to let me see this place and pick out some lambics. Very amazong of him to do so. The place is a cool, just what you imagine a Belgian countryside bar across the street from a church would be like. all the good lambics are here and some rarities you wont find anywhere else. Got a lambic basket as a gift and some old Eylenbosch labels and invoice. | | miketd (36), Cleveland, Ohio | | March 8, 2008 [ Updated July 26, 2008 ] Cool little place, nice owners, but limited hours. If you have time, this is the place to go on a Sunday morning. No tourists and great beer. Great beer list for on site consumption. Beer can be pre ordered on their website for take out. | | JoeinUccle (138), Brussels, Belgium | | January 10, 2008 The Insurance Against Great Thirst demands some planning ahead, because of those limited hours. It’s especially nice for sharing a Sunday lambic before heading off elsewhere for lunch, like the Rare Vos in nearby Schepdaal. The attraction here is the selection of bottled gueuze and other lambics, stored and served perfectly. All the serious ones are here: Boon, Cantillon, De Cam, Drie Fonteinen, Girardin, Hanssens, Lindemans (Cuvee Rene only!), Mort Subite, Oud Beersel, plus the occasional surprise. This is also where you might find one of those elusive lambic-serving baskets for sale. For any lambic-lover touring Pajottenland, here is your pilgrimage. |
