| bierkoning (135), La Tropica, Netherlands | | August 25, 2008 Excellent beer shop! Well assorted and some surprises, and the prices were quite OK. The shopkeeper was busy, but I found my own way and paying went quick enough. I’ll be back! | | Jerre (43), Waregem, Belgium | | February 6, 2008 We where here for first time on saterday 26 january. Good place. One of the best shops in Belgium. Wy gone back next week. | | Mes_and_Sim (23), Highgate, England | | February 2, 2008 This is a truely amazing place. It’s huge, like warehouse huge, has a superb selection and the service is outstanding. 10 mins north of Gent on the R4(?) I think. Be prepared for spending a very very long time in here. Out of everywhere I have been beer shopping in Belgium so far, this place beats everywhere else hands down. You will need a car, firstly to get there and secondly to deal with the sheer amount of beer you will buy. I have spent a fair bit of money in here and have had in return what I would say is triple what I spent. Awesome place and an absolute must visit. Only downside for me is the small lambic selection. That said, most of all I love this place for keeping my cellar full of all the Girardin Black Label I can drink. | | Grovlam (39), Copenhagen, Denmark | | May 28, 2007 What a world class place. This was by far the best shop in Belgium. Hard to finde if you don’t have a car, but it is all worth the drive! About 63 Km outside of Brussels. The place is great, the shop owner greeted us and asked where we were from. Then started helping us out with the beer list that we had. Even made suggestions on the way. The staff helped out as well with picking out beers from our list. Packed our goodies in cardboard boxes for the drive home to Denmark. A must if you have the time! Owner ended op giving me The original Eylenbosch Gueze - vintage 1986! Thanks very much, I will be back one day... ;-) | | pivnizub (216), Porúří, Germany | | June 28, 2006 Large beer-shop, friendly (well english-speaking) staff, great choice (e.g. De Rancke), well selected Lambics and Gueuzes as well.........Definitely recommended ! | | sayravai (82), Helsinki, Finland | | March 24, 2006 Like a supermarket - only filled with cheap(!) beer, beer and beer (plus some other drinks as a minority). Beers are nicely put on shelves, many with their glasses also on display. Trolleys would have been nice to have, but there seemed to be only few available at the time (and they were used by the staff). The first beershop where they used the barcodes at checkout, which made the shopping much quicker. No attempt was made to pack the bottles so that they wouldn’t break, so you’d better bring your own packing materials. Cardboard boxes were available, though. Had Chouffe Bok 6666, Bush Prestige (at 11,50€, cheaper than in the brewery shop!), nice selection of Cantillons and other lambics, plus some other rarities. Lots of large bottles to piss off those like me having to fly back home. Definitely and warmly recommended, if travelling by car! | | JorisPPattyn (14), Antwerpen, Belgium | | January 16, 2006 Absolutely a must, if you:
- want to buy Belgian beer
- are located in the vicinity of Gent
- have independent means of transport (aka a car/van), and have some time.
Very good choice, the usuals and a lot else besides. Hardly ever you won’t find something new. Non-Belgian beer is rather restricted, with a notable exception of the Heller-Trum "Schlenkerla" beers. Dominiek and Vera will gladly assist you if you have any questions. Very reasonable prices, which is rare in (the) Gent (area). MIND! this is really Oostakker, not Gent, about twenty minutes driving northwarts, along the canal/port zone. |
