| Jerre (43), Waregem, Belgium | | February 20, 2008 Yesterday it was years ago i was here.
WOW. Very good choice. Meany beers hard to find.
GOOD. | | Fin (68), Merton, England | | December 10, 2007 A reasonable sized beer warehouse, for those English raters out there who’ve been to Beers of Europe this is probably a similar size but narrower. Good selection, I picked up a few rarities 3 Fonteinen Schaerbeekse Kriek for 10 Euros a 750ml bottle seemed reasonable value to me, plus a number of the t Smisje beers that seem quite difficult to get at about 1.84 Euro’s for 33cl bottles. Quite well laid out, very friendly and helpful staff, good choice and prices on Blegian glassware. | | SHIG (52), Oberoffligen, Germany | | October 15, 2007 Another thanks to GPS finders. This store is tucked back in a alley of a one way street, but well worth the find. As one of the few places in Europe open on a Sunday I was pleased when the doors opened promply at 10. The staff greeted me with a smile and was very helpful when asked questions. They carried many brews typical to this region of Belgium, plus some imports. I was able to stock up on a few beers I knew I hadn’t tried, wished I had brought my list so I could have cleared more untasted. The glass wear is also amazing as I haven’t seen so many at a reasonable price. I will try and stop next time I am in the area for sure! | TheQuaffer (1), Epsom, England does not count | | October 8, 2007 A trip to Ghent isn’t complete without visiting The Hopduvel. There are a few German beers here, but apart from that it’s Belgium beers all the way. A very comprehensive selection, though I’ve yet to fathom out the order in which the beers are laid out. All the beers are available both individually & by the crate. You can return your empties & crates for a credit on your next purchase. It’s very much a warehouse rather than a beer shop with pretty displays. | | Grovlam (39), Copenhagen, Denmark | | May 28, 2007 Hard to find place with a good selection. Friendly service. You really have to look to finde the beers that you want from this place. All in all I thought this was pretty good. | | Stew41 (67), Caulfield, Australia | | April 21, 2007 Off Gent’s beaten track but well worth the effort. The shop is really more of a small warehouse who’s primary aim is to service local bars and restaurants. Pricing is awesome, perhaps the best in the country, as is the range. I had no problem with the display and layout, particulary when you can pay e.1.20 for a Rochefort 10 (ie 1/3rd the price in Australia). Very good range of glasses as well, again priced very well. To be honest this shop is better suited for a traveller with a car who in turn doesn’t have to worry about getting beer onto a plane. Given flight luggage restrictions perhaps it’s better keeping your powder dry for the likes of Cantillon and 3 Fonteinen. Definately worth a visit for the glasses however. | | Glouglouburp (142), Montreal, Quebec | | November 8, 2006 Halfway between a beer warehouse and a beer store. Huge. Display is a mess, you’ll find the same beer at different places. Some beers are in plastic cases and not on display. Very large selection but no rarities and no obscure micros. I don’t remember them having any non-belgian beers but I may be wrong. No service to speak of, this is Belgian Beer Depot. Prices are amazing and that raises the Overall score to me. The following is not a figure of speech, it is a fact based on many beer comparisons: Everything there is ½ price or less than what you’ll pay at a Brussels store (i.e. Beer Mania). Not a place to buy special beers to bring back home. This is where you go to pack your hotel fridge. A Girardin Black Label 375ml for 1.45 Euro is pretty hard to resist. | | stouby (38), Holbaek, Denmark | | June 4, 2006 A gigantic beer store with more than 2.000 different beers (they claim). We found a lot of beers in all sizes with matching glasses, lambics, gueuzes and all kinds of fruit beers. They also have a collection of soft drinks, wines, jenevers and other spirits. They accept card payments for foreigners. A must visit place, I’ll come back. | | sayravai (82), Helsinki, Finland | | March 24, 2006 A very good and pretty cheap beershop - even if traveling by car, as they have good parking facilities. They also have trolleys you can drag around with you when choosing beers - very convenient! On the other hand, most beers are only in cases, so they’re a bit hard to spot. There are hand-written labels for each, though. The selection is very good, although there are very few specialties. Dranken Geers (not within the city) has slightly better selection, better displayed, but mostly the stuff is same in both. Be sure to reserve enough time for browsing (and enough cargo space for taking all the stuff out of there ;)! | | Yogi_Beera (104), Hamburg, Germany | | October 24, 2005 What a great place to buy beer - the prices are for Americans ridicioulus. We bought a whole trunk full of beers there. Single bottles on the left side, in the middle crates. Not that much glassware though. The selection is as mentioned before great. | View Page : 1 2
