| ghawener (33), San Salvador, El Salvador | | July 30, 2009 The place is very nice, great bar, terrace and restaurant areas. The beer selection is mostly in house brews but difficult to navigate as the menu is flimsy, prices are a secret and happy hour specials a highly classifies (at least our waiter was not aware). The food we have was GREAT! Beer just OK. | | cazort (25), Newark, Delaware | | September 3, 2008 This is a really run-of-the-mill chain brewery that, in my opinion, doesn’t have much going for it. My biggest complaints are the beer and the location. The beer ranges from average to poor. To their credit, I’ve never tasted a truly terrible beer from Rock Bottom, but I think that’s because their beers tend to be on the bland side. The location? I suppose it’s good to have some place like this within walking distance of the University, but it’s not like anyone actually walks here anyway, due to the horrible car-oriented design of the entire neighborhood. My opinion? Two thumbs down. There are so many great breweries and bars around San Diego: don’t waste your time here, and don’t waste your time in this neighborhood either. | | badlizard (67), Berkeley, California | | June 30, 2007 Average chain brewery feel. Average food and service, though the waiter called thier black lager a "stout." The beer was a little below average overall. I probably won’t be back. | | fordest (62), Santee/San Diego, California | | April 30, 2007 Nice place inside and out. The selection was pretty good with four regular beers, two dark rotating beers instead of the required (by the franchise) one, plus four extras. Beer was not bad really. The food attempted to be better than the average pub fare. Maybe it was, ours tended to be oversalted, maybe just a bad day? The appitizer was yummy though: Beer bread and asiago cheese dip. Best part of the meal... well, along with the beer... I mean the fact that I was able to try 7 new beers anyway. | | cbkschubert (33), Cochise Co., Arizona | | March 18, 2006 This place is great. Got there about 4:15 with the family on St. Patties Day. The dinning room was empty, but the bar area was packed with 20 somethings getting an early start. Service was great. The food was even better (a little pricey). Had buffalo for the first time. Good stuff. Tried the beer sampler (7 or 8 beers). Black lager, real good. Even bought a growler of it for $7.95 filled. Can’t bet that. When we left, there were about 20 people waiting to be seated. Bring some money, but it’s worth the stop. | | BückDich (215), McCall, Idaho | | March 6, 2006 Outside is a nice looking building, typical of most franchise brewpub chains. Inside is clean and well groomed, a large bar area and spread out seating. The beer selection was much better than the GasLamp location and they even had some palateable seasonals. The food was expensive and pretty good, but it was all free for me anyways. Gotta love the business trips. The waiter was kind of a douche, he forgot my water like 3 times and when I asked for the other 2 beers not in the sampler he gave me a look like "Jesus, what the hell did you just say to me?" But it was ok for a one-time dinner stop and that’s about it. Best Rock Bottom in San Diego, but that ain’t saying much. | | trokini (57), San Diego, California | | August 30, 2005 I gave the selection an 8, because all they have is about 8 of their own beers on tap. They are really good beers, and they do a good job of rotating them. The food is excellent, for bar food. Service was friendly and prompt, even though it was really crowded. | Hairofthedog (8), San Diego, California does not count - explanation | | July 31, 2005 The beer for a rock bottoms chain is the better in the city. The food was good and the shots are expensive. Our bill was $255 after the bachelor party/pub crawl ate and drank their fill. The beer was good, but nothing that really stands out. The service was awesome and I must say thank you to our waitress for putting up with 20 drunk asses. I really appreciate it. | | beernoevil (27), Suwanee, Georgia | | July 3, 2005 Good food and OK beer as is typical for this chain. Had the usual offering of 5 or 6 non-descript beers. Had their Pale Ale on cask. It was good but not earth shattering. |
