Not much of a tasting room, but they more than make up for that with there great selection of beers for $0.50 tasters.

This place is all about the beer - the ambiance is warehouse but everybody is freindly.

Hung out at Alesmith for their 2007 Barrel Aged Decadence release. A fun time was had with the many ratebeerians in the tasting line outside. As for the brewery and the release, everything went smoothly with there numbering system. I got to meet Peter and speak to him for a while. Not only is he an amazing brewery, but also a nice guy who is really passionate about the beer culture. The tasting bar and some good stuff on tap including My Bloody Valentine and the new All-English Anvil. at $0.50 per sample, its a bargain! Good Beer, good people, fun place!

Really nice people, and really good beer. Not much more then a few taps and brewing equipment, so not much of a destination.

Stopped here on day one of RBSG2008. Nice location with tasty beer to sample. As a special treat, Peter brewed up a special batch of Speedway with Weasel Pooh Coffee (which we dubbed The Shit). Amazingly friendly folks with awesome beer.

A great group of guys (and gal) always happy to help out. Their attitude is only exceeded by the quality of their beers. I’ve been there for release parties as well as on regular tasting days. Sometimes the lines can be long to get a glass or growler fill, but since they are really a production facility not a brewpub, I don’t think that should be held against them. They have stayed open past closing hours to finish growler fills and have even allowed keg pick up during off hours.

Rating for the BA Numbskull release. They seemed very well organized and I was able to pick up my 4 BA Numbskulls without a hitch. I will definitely stop by again the next time I am in the San Diego area. Just be aware of their hours.

For being such a recognized brewery, I can’t understand why the tap room isn’t open for more than two days a week for two hours in the middle of a warehouse district, but perhaps it’s all part of the mystery. Whatever I takes to get growlers of their magic beer, right? I drove from out of town and arrived when they were closed, but they still took five minutes to hook me up, so I think that goes to show that it’s really just about making the best product they can for us.

Still haven’t added this to my places after several visits for releases and growler fills. Right off the bat you should know that Peter Zien is one of the most approachable and coolest brewers in San Diego. His personalitly makes coming to the brewery for any occasion worth the trip. And then you try the brews. And now Peter has competition as to why you came. Peter and Alesmith’s creations are world class.
