6 reviews for Best Damn Beer Shop
| DaSilky1 (49), San Diego, California | | November 5, 2009 This place is called Super Jr. Market, the Best Damn Beer Shop is an adjective...and a very appropriate adjective if "in San Diego" was put after it. I cannot believe this place went under my radar for so long...its a 5 minute drive from my house. The selection beats Holiday, South Bay, and Port Bottle Shop...They had pretty much everything to be expected in this area as well as stuff that has long sold out at the other places mentioned above. They had a bunch of Alpine beers, including Duet and Pure Hoppiness which are hard to find, even in San Diego. They had Mikellar Cascade single hop IPA which I havent seen anywhere. They still had Older Viscosity and Black Butte Porter 21st anniversary...The guy put me on the mailing list and was surprisingly knowledgeable about beer. The place itself is as ghetto as ghetto can be and I contracted both Scabbies and Aids just waiting in line to pay...but the beer section was nicely displayed..some in coolers, some on shelves...but seriously, best selection in san diego! | tokyogoat (3), San Diego, California does not count - explanation | | November 1, 2009 Stopped by here when stuck downtown one night.
Its in a grocery store on the outskirts of east village and the ghetto.
Beer selection is pretty decent, lots of the west coast standards, allagash, and random craft and belgium standards. nothing i was excited to see. Pricing was pretty decent.
Service was good, but the every so common overly excited beer guy was working. seems like every new beer store is ran by one of these guys. I know you like beer, but please let me pick what i want, if i need a recommendation i will ask for one.
This place is a good start for the beer community in downtown, but still nowhere near what we should have downtown. | | iowaherkeye (24), Los Angeles , California | | October 16, 2009 I didn’t see steview’s disclaimer until just now. It is named Super Jr. Market on the awning, and that’s what it is--a little corner store that happens to have a pretty large liquor and beer section. Nabbed the last Alpine Nelson--they were supposed to get more in the next week. Among others, lots of Alesmith, Lost Abbey, Ballast Point (including Dorado--no Sculpin @ the moment), with 80-90% of it all in coolers. Decent selection of imports, with maybe a dozen lambics, none of which were ungodly rare. Sid hooked me up with a t-shirt and stickers--seemed to know his beer very well. Super friendly guy. Prices seemed pretty reasonable, though I’d seen a number of beers a buck or two cheaper @ South Bay. Small selection of glassware. Left here quite pleased, and will definitely stop by next time I’m in town. | | beerfest5 (12), Simsbury, Connecticut | | October 2, 2009 dammit i wish i found this place earlier, just as im leaving, just my luck, great selection and really helpful staff that love beer as much as me. | | jeremytoni (54), Swedesboro, New Jersey | | August 6, 2009 [ Updated August 21, 2009 ] Weird little store with a great selection of beer. A lot of California micros Lost Abbey, Port Brewing, Ale Smith. | | steview (15), Los Angeles, California | | July 21, 2009 When you need to find this place, look for "Super Jr. Market" NOT "Best Damn Beer Shop." They sell t-shirts with Best Damn Beer Shop on it. I’m not sure if it’s two different places combined into one - don’t care. What you need to care about is how this is a necessary place for beer hunters staying in the Gas Lamp district. I stayed at the Wyndham Vacation Resort, which is on 5th. This place is conveniently two blocks behind the resort. The selection is great (e.g., Lost Abbey’s Cuvee de Tomme for $30, other rare beers, a lot of craft and quality, which are all in a somewhat separate section), but only if you’re stuck to the location; otherwise, San Diego is extremely beery and has many other locales. Check it out!!! (I scored this review based on being stuck in the Gas Lamp - so, it was pretty much this, Ralph’s much poorer selection, or restaurants... And, no, the nearby 7-11 doesn’t sell beer.) |
