| Pivoyager (36), Gaithersburg, Maryland | | November 25, 2009 Beach Chalet overlooks the aptly-named Ocean Beach. Go up the stairs and you will find a busy, and somwhat classy, dining room bustling with families, tourists and waitstaff. You can wait for a table that looks out at the beach - and where Gidget and Moondoggie are no doubt hanging ten - or you can find a place at the bar to the right as you enter. You can see the brewing tanks from here as well.
Beach Chalet offers a variety of styles - about a dozen beers, one of which was on cask during my visit. A six-beer sampler runs about $8.00. They also bottle their beer to take home. ( I took home two by the way.)
The menu seemed a bit hoity-toity; of course, I am not some swell that descends from a Pacific Heights loft when in need of victuals. In any case, the food was pretty good - I chose the roast beef dip. Service was efficient, but hurried. Obviously turnaround is important, so you should have a few pints without lingering.
Beach Chalet is adjacent to Golden Gate Park and is accessible to Muni (the public transit system.) An enjoyable lunch with some decent beers.

Great view of the ocean with plenty of parking (which is always a plus in San Francisco)
The food was pretty good; the beer selection was nice, and overall it was worth going to. | | Rastacouere (475), Montréal, Quebec | | July 1, 2009 The location at the extreme border of the Golden Gate Park, just by Ocean beach is tough to beat, so is the view, but by no means can this place be considered a must. It took us forever for one of the many, many employees to come to our table. The 2 beers tried were considerably under average and since there is not much else interesting beer destination in this part of the city, you should skip it if your time is limited. Still, inside is a rather upscale restaurant/bar with great bay windows to catch the view and sunset. The building itself is also historic. | | PilsnerPeter (95), Flushing, New York | | April 13, 2009 Beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean from the bar. Low ceilings, lots of sunlight- has a real nautical feel to it. The two bartenders weren’t the friendliest, and didn’t express to much knowledge of the product served. The beers were run of the mill. I think this place’s strongest characteristic is the scenic view of the beach and ocean. | | heemer77 (171), Savannah, Missouri | | January 5, 2009 Had breakfast here recently and was pleasantly surprised. The food I and my girlfriend had was solid. The beer I tried was mostly average to above average. The biggest problem was that the food was fairly expensive. This was an obviously beautiful location with a great ocean view. We had good service to go along with the good food and good beers. | | Beese (50), Watford, England | | September 6, 2008 [ Updated September 17, 2008 ] Not a bad location, you can take a nice stroll through Golden Gate Park to get to it, which is always nice. Quite a posh scene, I was pleased to find that a taster selection didn’t cost an arm and a leg. Pretty solid brews all-in-all, fairly standard affair stylistically, but good nonetheless. Didn’t stay for food, but it looked pricey, obviously can’t comment on the quality, though... Good place to check out, not sure I’d go back , though.
Quick note, don’t use Google maps when trying to loacte this place, it’s not where the map claims it is! It’s actually on the West coastal side of San Fran. | | Nik925 (10), California | | July 9, 2008 [ Updated August 5, 2008 ] Just went for some drinks, this place could not ask for a better location. Its a upscale SF restaurant, and they happen to brew their own beer. The beers are conservative although well made. Thats pretty much a clear description of what you should expect. Drinking beer at night on their back patio was pretty nice, and then a walk on the beach. HOWEVER:
their beer is not reasonably priced, pretty sure its $6.00 a pint, and 3 beers+mixed drink+tip set me back more than $40 bucks, so BS on reasonably priced.
If you ran out of beer on the beach or need a night cap from after the beach, this is ok, otherwise, leave it to the SF snobs. | | ABUSEDGOAT (57), California | | April 13, 2008 A fun place to go, no question. Reasonable selection, about 8 beers total to choose from. However, service suffered and got so bad that I used the track dork part of myself and timed the server. 9:59, 8:41 and 3:41 for our drink orders. Hey, it’s negative splits, but who wants to wait 10 minutes for a beer? Had the fries, figured that would be unfair to give a food score based on that alone. Great ambiance, after that it’s downhill. | | Bobsy (25), Toronto, Ontario | | January 2, 2008 Located in a really nice spot overlooking the ocean and at the end of golden gate park, the beach chalet is a pretty cool art deco building. The place was extremely busy when we got there, but service was quick and efficient, and our food arrived soon after ordering. Everything was a bit pricy, and we erred towards the more traditional options, which were very well prepared. When we visited they had eight taps of their own brews (of vastly differing quality). It was pretty cool drinking a beer and watching the waves crash. | Kristatos (4), does not count - explanation | | August 17, 2007 When I go here I usually hang in the Park Chalet out back when the weather’s nice. The lawn chairs are nice, with drink/food service. Plenty of space for kids to roam. Live music sometimes. I don’t go for the beer, although it’s not bad. |
