Great place in a horrible strip mall location. You have to buy a sandwich to get beer which is a drag sometimes but the food is better than others. Usually have awesome specials on beer. Patio is great when it isn’t too hot.

Went there a few years ago. Pretty much a sandwich shop with an awesome selection of bottled beers and a decent selection on tap. Atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired, but the beer selection is incredible. Beers are served out of plastic cups.

Absolutely great place and a step back into beer history. Sam and his wife are great people, and yes, I support the beer nazi. I allowed Sam to pair a beer with my pastrami sandwich and then was able to score a bottle of 2005 Decadence Old Ale from him for a mere 18 bucks. An amazing place with bottles of 88 Samichlaus on the wall. I plan on returning again and again...

No it’s not the best deli you’ve ever been to, no they don’t (always) have hyper-limited stuff or anything you can’t get from a good distributor... this year. But Sam and his wife A) are one-of-a-kind cats and B) keep their beer FOREVER. You can easily walk in any day of the week and find ten-year-old beers: Rogue, Gouden Carolus, Stone that I’ve had, and any number of Belgians that I haven’t. The only place in LA certainly where you can look at the glass and get a real sense of beer history. Absolutely a top-ten place in the US to sit down and have a craft beer. And every time you go, there WILL be something new. Even if you go twice a month or more. Sam Sam invented retail cellaring in this country and that is a plain old fact. This bottle list is the closest you will get to Kulminator on this side of the Atlantic.

You might get yelled at if you order your turkey sandwich without mayo...something like, Why is turkey even worth it if you don’t get mustard and mayo? Regardless, after the good-natured abuse, it is a really. great. sandwich. The ambiance is a strange cross between a deli and your uncle’s garage....with tables and folding chairs in the middle. If you’re into proper glassware, I’d strongly suggest bringing (or buying) your own glass as the beer is served in paper cups.

I have been wanting to try this place forever. However, someone forgot to tell me to bring my own glass. Folks, unless you like paper cups, BRING YOUR GLASS. This is a total mom and pop food joint in an aging strip center. You can’t drink any beer until you order food, so get that out of the way when you walk in. Now to the beer. Very nice selection for consumption on premises and take out. The owner is into cellaring, so he is always bring out vintage kegs, and even has vintage six packs of Bigfoot for sale going back to the 90’s. Indoor and outdoor seating. Food is reasonably priced, but nothing special (just ok). This place may not be fancy, but it has a lot of character and the people that run it do it their way- whether you like it or not. Service was excellent and I chatted with the owner’s wife for awhile. My type of place.

Simply the best place I have ever been to get any beer I have wanted to try. Those who say you can get many of these beers elsewhere obviosly don’t live in the Midwest where brewers like Alesmith are nonexistant. Or Rogue who does sell in IL, but not to the extent that is at The SS. Glad I made the trip and will stop in next time I am in Cali.
