| BeerandBlues2 (139), Colorado Springs, Colorado | | February 19, 2008 It is a commercial brewery. What do you expect? Ok, so a chance to try a brewery only beer? Check. | | BeerBelcher (88), Milwaukee, Wisconsin | | October 13, 2007 I thought the Coors tour was average compared to other big brewer tours. Throughout the tour you are herded through hallways with information signs and displays, and most of the brewing equipment you see is behind glass. The tour guide was an under-21 young man, who didn’t seem to have answers to most of the questions asked, but had enthusiasm for his tour-guiding task. The brewery is ultra-modern (lacking the emphasis on tradition found at some other BMC tours I’ve been on), and during the tour sustainability themes were stressed - I was informed that the Coors family were/are pioneers in recycling, a pond out front houses water used/reused for cooling equipment and power generation, the brewery contains a greenhouse, etc. The tour ended with the typical sampling in a very bright and modern tasting room, with most of Coors’ less exciting offerings, although the Blue Moon pumpkin beer was on tap. The loudest member of the tasting room staff put on a fairly prominent display of ignorance regarding craft beer/the existence of non-mainstream beers. All-in-all, a pretty average tour, but certainly worth the trip to scenic Golden. Well worth the price of admission (free). | | hopdog (176), Lansdale, Pennsylvania | | December 12, 2006 Did this for the Hell of it. At least I learned that cold beer, filtered like hell, and not aged at all (repeated multiple times during the tour) is the best for you. They even bragged on how you could hold a glass of coors up to a glass of water and it should be clearer. That being said, I enjoyed the tour. The tour guide told us that their on-site fitness center has Coors Light on tap (classic). | | BrewDad (188), Olympia, Washington | | September 29, 2006 [ Updated September 4, 2008 ] [Colorado Road Trip 2006
Well I have been to Mecca or to Golden and we stopped and saw Coors. What a great tour. Don’t get scared with the 30 minute drive through Golden Quote before the tour starts stuff. They do pack you on a bus to get you to the tour start and take you on a quick 10 minute tour through the heart of Golden. It does show some great places to go get lunch afterwards. Once there they have you in a huge room full of Coors history. A tour guide takes you through the process not in brewing order but this person knows their Coors history and what each process is doing. Not a Brew Master but the information is correct. Do not try to stump them with Hops questions and how much Alpha Acid they use or such they will never know that. This was a fun outing and now I can say I have been there and it was nice. They limit you to 24oz of free beer and it was cold and good. Thanks Adolph Coors for bringing beer to the Mountain West.
| | KAggie97 (122), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring , Texas | | October 7, 2005 I like this place. The tour guides are informative and entertaining, and you get free beer. I don’t care if it IS swill-- I drink Coors when I’m drinkin’ swill, so why not tour where it’s born? The beer itself, for macro, is the best out there. Pete is the man. | | Braudog (441), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates | | June 19, 2005 Great tour even if you hate the beer. | | AustinMilbarge (49), Phoenix, Arizona | | November 12, 2004 I agree, the tour is among the best I’ve ever been on. While Coors has a less than ideal record with the local environment, I would probably still recommend a stop by here, you get some free brew. | | fly (163), austin, Tejas, | | November 11, 2004 Okay - pay attention here - if you think I have some sort of infatuation with this brewery ... you’re partially correct. First beer I ever tasted. Were it not to have sparked my curiosity as to the big WHY of it all I may never have gone on to try so many beers. This tour is actually one of THE BEST ANYWHERE. While I’ve grown tired of just seeing mash tuns and the whole bit - this is thorough - you see it all. Just make sure you pack some brews back in the car because if you’re like me when you get to the tap room you’ll just want to start screaming "I WANT A REAL BEER!!!!" |
