| acrdz (538), Boulder, Colorado | | September 16, 2008 Just got in the Pizza Port/Lost Abbey line. Prices are good, selection is decent but not comprehensive, especially with Belgian and German imports. It’s possible you can find some things out of season, which is nice if it’s a style that holds up. The beer manager is great though, truly helpful, knows what is available, and is able to answer most questions. Prices are generally much lower than in Boulder. Good wine selection as well. | | f351c4v (49), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | May 15, 2008 Located on Sheridan, near the Turnpike. Upsidedown A advertising gimmick worked, I stopped during a business trip to the Denver area, and what a pleasant surprise. Large warehouse style store, very clean, with a well organized beer area. Coolers dominate the left hand side of the store, lots of micros, plenty of Belgians, even a few Fantome’s! Domestic crud is banished to the back coolers, a plus. If socialist PA would only privatize... | | ratman197 (89), Arvada, Colorado | | March 17, 2008 Large well lit store with good size aisles. The service (in the beer department at least) is good. The beer selection is decent but not as good as the Thornton store. Overall it’s a decent liqour store. | fenderama (5), Denver, Colorado does not count | | March 14, 2008 We spent about two and a half hours combing the shelves - and checking rate beer rankings, of course :) Lots of interesting singles - including some mix and match deals. Lots of beer I haven’t seen elsewhere in the Denver area - Phantome de Noel, Brasserie de Roc Grand Cru, Dogfish Head 120 minute IPA, a very tasty Stuise Mikkeler. Plus all the best of the local beers. It’s warehouse-y, which is a drawback for me. But the staff was knowledgeable and helpful. I definitely recommend this place to locals and to out-of-towners who are looking for beers that are unavailable in their home states. | | Lumpy (48), Carrollton, Texas | | January 22, 2008 BIG warehouse type store with all kinds of stuff to get you drunk. Nice large selection of beer, both cold and not. Selection can’t be beat and the prices were very reasonable. If I lived in the Denver area, this would probably be my store. | GotOskarBlues (1), Albuquerque, New Mexico does not count | | October 14, 2007 Being from Albuquerque New Mexico...this place is absolutely amazing. I love the selection and the ability to buy singles of all my most favorite beers. Too bad alcohol is too much of an issue for something like this to ever come here... | | Ernest (103), Boulder, Colorado | | September 19, 2007 A relatively new liquor store located in the strip mall mess around Sheridan & Hwy 36. The "A" in TOTAL is upside down (and a different color) on their sign, but as of yet I’m not aware of the significance.
As with the other Total Beverages I’ve been to in Thornton and Ft. Collins (but again, none of these *appear* to be related), it’s a big warehouse-style "everything you can think of to get you sloshed." They remind me a LOT of the location in Thornton primarily because of the way they have laid out the beer department. It’s virtually identical, and the selections are very similar too.
But, being a new location (at least I think so...certainly within the last year), *most* of the product is pretty new as well. Except in cases where the distributor still has old stock, which certainly happens, and can be seen on these shelves as well. But, I fear the same fate for the selection overall, as they have a lot of samples of beers that are doomed never to move. Beer buyers have to be pretty savvy in order to keep the right amount of all the various selections on hand. For example, it’s probably not a good idea to buy five cases of Ukrainian lager. It’s not going to sell out anytime soon. So, all in all, it’s basically a carbon copy of my comments for the Thornton Total Beverage, with perhaps slightly less worry about old stock. Slightly. |
