13 reviews for Gordon’s Yellow Front Wines and Liquors
STRIX918 (2), Connecticut does not count - explanation | | December 17, 2009 Recently found this place from reviews here even though I only live 10 minutes away. Small shop with nice craft and import selection. Most newer brews are available but as mentioned, there is some older stuff still on the shelves Maybe a mixed blessing, but I got a Southampton 10th Anniversary Old Ale (yum) and they still have Avery Maharaja batch #8. Worth a visit. | | zebracakes (17), Washington DC | | June 20, 2008 Decent selection for the area (middle of nowhere), but a little disappointing. I guess I’m just too spoiled. I found that some of the beers were really old, and they were not beers that would age well. You really do have to clean the shelf dirt off the bottles too. I do recommend the shop if you’re stuck in this part of CT. The prices are not bad. Perhaps a second visit would make me appreciate this place a bit more. Or if I wasn’t trapped here for a wedding. | | OldRaspy (13), Virginia Beach, Virginia | | June 9, 2008 What a Gem of a place. This is the best example of looks aren’t everything. Excellent selection and they allow you to break six-packs. This is a must stop if you are in the New London area. | | Trooper11 (15), Suffolk, Virginia | | November 27, 2007 Thanks to Immy for dragging me to this joint. Somewhat of an Alice in Wonderland in the ghetto. Building is a small square cinder block facade painted mostly....well, Yellow that appears to not be large enough to hold a six pack let alone the treasure trove of fine brew housed in this palace. What a selection. Very friendly staff greeted me at the door and made for a highly educated conversation on the topic of beer. Six packs, singles, rarities (which I had to blow the dust off of), and more. Very reasonable prices. Recommend going early in the day as after dark the LOCALS come out, i.e. the Crack Ho hanging out at the door looking for a fix during my departure. Left out of that neighborhood so fast I really hope that I can find this place again. | portermax55 (7), Canterbury, Connecticut does not count - explanation | | October 20, 2007 Decided to take a trip here considering it’s only 40 minutes away from me. It’s a little tricky to find if your new to the area with several one way streets blocking an immediate route. The building seems small from the outside, but houses one of the best beer selections in Connecticut i’ve seen. They have an exceptional selection of Micros, New England Micros, and have an equally impressive selection of Belgian, German, and International brews too. The staff was very friendly and helpful AND you can mix 6-packs. Will become a regular stop for me. | | JAF737300 (34), Tampa, Florida | | July 29, 2007 A small but very well stovekd store with some great locals and hard to find micro brews. The staff was quite nice and looked for extra bottle for me! | | bonbright7 (35), Bellport, New York | | July 16, 2007 Based on what I read of this place here and in the BA, I decided to make a detour in my annual summer pilgrimage to Mystic, CT, and find this place. After I missed the US-1 exit off I-95, I backtracked through New London to find this oasis and found Colman St is US-1. The store really didn’t look like much from the outside as it was in a semi-rough area, but once inside, the view looked grand. It clearly deserved more time than I had. It had all the current highlights in craft brewing such as Flying Dog, Allagash, Cisco, Ommegang, Stone, and Rogue. It also had a super German, Belgian, and British section as I picked up an Ommegang plus a 4-pack of St. Bernadus Tripel. I told the owner I was impressed with his great selection and he seemed pleased with the instant review. | | Immy (88), Virginia Beach, Virginia | | April 29, 2006 No, this is not in the best part of town. No, I don’t care, because it’s a good little store! Good selection broken down by place of origin - lots of Belgians, Germans, English - and a good selection of American brews - DFH, Lagunitas, Hooker, Harpoon - the list goes on and on. Reasonable prices and a good, friendly staff. Will be my regular stop when I am in the area, which is quite a bit! | | Dickinsonbeer (29), Hoboken, New Jersey | | March 16, 2006 Pretty good "package store". Had a section for american micros, another section for belgians, and yet another for germans/english and eastern european beers. Be sure to check out the coolers because I foudn soem random beers in there that werent on the shelves. The guy who workst there- Mike, was very nice and helpful. Some of theri belgians and german beers were old- which can be a good thing. I picked up some 2002 schneider eisbocks (donno if they are good) and they had a bunch of other unintentionally aged beers. I picked up some hooker imperial porter in 1 liter swing tops, some hooker, IPA and theri munich golden lager in bombers. Also had the harpoon impy stout, some ipswitch, and lots of other small micros I had never heard of. Prices seemed very reasonable (New London is a very cheap area of CT). Im glad I stopped here on my business trip to New London. I willl come back next time for sure! | tsgrayson (2), Bainbridge Island, Washington does not count - explanation | | February 1, 2006 Just do not look where you are parking and lock the doors. Considering what else is in the area....there are really no other choices. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Great selection. |
