August 10, 2009 One of my favourite brewpubs on my Czech Republic visit, and seemingly very popular on our lunchtime visit. A good range of well made beers, good service, outdoor setting, and probably my best Czech (something without dumplings!). |

July 4, 2009 Situated in a beutiful building, this brewpub is quite big with lot of seating space in different rooms. Quite traditionally decorated with stone floors, some wood panelling and white walls. They had 6 beers on draft when we visited. The food was decent, but the service was grumpy - not very serviceminded. |

May 25, 2009 Visited Modra Hvezda mid May 2009 the place, especially the large beer-garden in the back was packed. The menu is very traditional Czech and has detailed English translation for every dish, this we found is not very common in most Restaurants in Czech’ with only a vague description being the rule. The food selection is amazing with lots of local specialities and my favourite game dishes. The pricing we found for Czech to be very reasonable and this is applicable to food and drink, especially in comparison to Prague and Plzen. A standard beer (0.5l) was czk26.00, in Prague we paid as much as czk90.00 and at the Prague airport bar we paid czk145.00. The service was also of a high standard, we were being served by a very jung waiter with basic English but this was not a problem because of his friendly and easy going demeanour it was easy to communicate using hand and feet. The owner ended up giving us a mid night tour of his pride and joy. A great experience all round. Could not plan it better if you tr |

November 27, 2008 A super clean, super nice brewpub that is very different from just about all other places I’ve visited in Czech Republic. Big woody furniture, almost classy. Unusually sparkling clean for a brewpub. Seven taps!!! May not seem like a lot for the North-American reader but 7 taps is A LOT of taps in a Czech Republic brewpub where 1 to 4 taps is the norm. On the downside the waitress was very rude, the worst service I’ve had in Czech Republic. She didn’t make any effort to help us and seemed exasperated because tourists (us) didn’t speak the language. However the friendly brewer erased the bad score I was going to give for the service. That guy is amazing. He phoned a friend of his who spoke our language and we had a long conversation with the brewer with his friend on the phone acting as the translator. How’s that for an experience!! Most beers were good. Food was good. Average food menu for lunch but the dinner food menu is quite extensive. A Must! |

August 5, 2008 The hotel/brewpub looks nice and the beers are very good (hats off for the brewer), but I can’t say many good things about the waitress. The food was nice enough if I remember correctly. Had the service been better this would’ve been a much better experience. |

July 23, 2008 Nice place, very good beers, standard Czech food, large beer garden and unfriendly waiteress (should I say arrogant).
Except brewpub there’s also hotel, but what I don’t get it why would anyone build 4 star hotel in small town of not more than 5000 inhabitants??? Suitable for buisness meetings, seminars and team buildings, but with stuff like this... |

July 15, 2008 The outside looked inviting, the inside as well. But the service was horrible - they didn’t feel like servicing us at all - even people with genuine interest in their beers. I tried to buy a T-shirt, but they were reluctant to find one my size. The beers were a great positive surprise though - especially the tmavé. Perhaps this is a better place to go in smaller groups? Food was acceptable. |

July 8, 2008 Pretty crapy service, especially after begging a large group to come. Waitress as well as bar stuff rather unfriendly. Nice surroundings. Food mediocre. |

July 4, 2008 Decent enough beers, just a shame that they apparently didn’t really like groups of people who came there with a genuine interest in their beers |
