8 reviews for U Klokočnika - Hospoda Kácovského Pivovaru
| ogivlado (145), Zagreb, Croatia | | October 12, 2008 Not so easy to find, actually quite difficult. On my way from Pivovar Bašta to U Klokočnika I’ve asked six or seven people and only last one knew. I was there at lunchtime and the place was full so I sit outside under lime-tree with view on prison and barb wire. Looks like old school building. Only two very cheap Kacov beers available. | | Svesse (92), Hässelby, Sweden | | September 10, 2008 You can say a lot about this place, but it has character. Nice and friendly, seriously smoky drinking den, located in what looks like an old school house in a slightly worn down area. Easily reached by foot from metro station Prazského Povstání. Occupied by chain smoking, beer drinking, middle aged locals and virtually tourist free (except the occasional beer hunter). Four Kacov beers on tap (two yeast beers). Friendly and efficient service. Prices are ... to say the least ... decent. We had six 50 cl beers, it cost us slightly below 4 Euros (6 USD), the Coca-Cola was more expensive than the beer (which is the way it should be). Definitely worth a detour, easily combined with the Pivovar Basta. As glouglouburp says, don’t bring a girlfriend, only people like us know how to appreciate a place like this. | | Glouglouburp (214), Montreal, Quebec | | August 28, 2008 Oh man, how low can you go in pub-crawling… and really enjoy it. Sits about 30, everybody is over 40 year old. This is a dirty place. Do they have a smoke machine? No, it’s just that everybody there seems to be a chain-smoker. If you visit this place YOU MUST go to the bathroom even you don’t need to. I’ve been pub-crawling for a good part of my life but I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a dirty piss-smelling bathroom. Incredible. I won’t bother describe the decoration. The view, well, guess what, you’ve got a view on a jail, and not the cleanest cutest one either. Oh and BTW I absolutely loved that low-life shitty watering hole. An acquired taste I guess. We went mainly because this was the only bar we found in Prague where they served the Kácov beers. And trust me the Kácov beers are really worth the detour. Excellent beers. When I was there they had the two different Kácov Světle both in regular and Kvasnicový (unfiltered) versions. So that’s four beers total. Inside menu didn’t mentioned anything about regular and Kvasnicový versions of the beers. You need to ask. Friendly service. Cheap beer (less than $1/pint) and cheap tasty snacks (although I don’t wanna see the kitchen). A must as far as I’m concerned, but not a place I’d bring my girlfriend to. Not far from Pivovar Bašta (radically different bewpub) so you can hit two birds with one stone. | | MartinT (348), Montreal, Quebec | | June 29, 2008 Atmosphere basically drips from the walls of this place. Smoke seems to stick to them though. The yellowish curtains and this prevalent cigarette and cigar smoke in the air make it hard to sniff your pints, but they are part of the ambiance. Here you can sample 4 Kacov Svetlés, 2 of which being the Kvasnicové versions. Be careful when ordering them though, cuz these Kvasnicové beers were not on the paper menu inside even though they were advertised on a chalkboard outside. Prices are ridiculously cheap (15Kc for the 10?!?) and the snacks we had were very good (goat cheese on garlic with buttery bread). All in all, I probably wouldn’t bring my beloved for more than a quick cultural experience, but I had a blast spending a couple of hours here with beer-loving friends. Oh yeah, the view on the jail across the street must be pleasant from the terrace. (74e rating d’établissement) | | mullet (133), Melbourne, Australia | | January 14, 2008 My new favourite pub in Prague. Sufficiently out of the way to not get any tourists but not too difficult to get to from the middle of town. A fairly large bar with half a dozen regulars at the bar who likely sleep there too. Suburban-style beer garden out the front with picnic tables under trees in the front yard with a view of an auto wreckers. Fantastic Kácov beers on tap at ridiculous prices 14/16Kč. Very friendly folks happy to joke around, even if we couldn’t understand a word the other was saying. I’ll be back for sure. | | pivnizub (273), Bochum, Porúří, Germany | | May 28, 2007 Basic suburban boozer, close to the Pancrac-prison, popular with locals, tourists will be hardly seen there... They offer the whole range of Kacov beers, including the rare unfiltered versions, which aren’t available at the brewery-tap in Kacov ! Very basic czech meals of mediocre quality are offered; nevertheless, worth a detour ! | | Quack-Duck (99), Bodensee/Schwarzwald, Germany | | May 27, 2007 Smoky pub in Praha 4 - Nusle, a suburb near the Pankrác jail. You can get there by tram from Narodní trida (Tesco). 4 different Kácov beers on tap, including 2 rare unfiltered (kvasnicove) lagers. Kácov beers can hardly be found outside the little town of Kácov. Staff are friendly, the place is quite noisy, many locals enjoying this high quality beer even at 3pm. I haven’t tried the food, but some basic meals seem to be available. |
