La Bodega is located in the neighborhood of Zamalek, which is a 20-minute walk heading NorthWest from most hotels in Downtown Cairo (and is West of the Nile). The main reason to visit La Bodega is that it was the only place in Cairo that I could find which served Luxor Lager and Luxor Special. La Bodega also serves about five other Egyptian beers, which are commonly found in Cairo. The restaurant offers excellent food, by Cairean standards, and at US$11/entree, you won’t break the bank. Dress well, as the crowd is well-heeled and the restaurant is quite swank.brbr
How to find it: 26th of July Street is a major avenue running East-West through Zamalek, crossing the Nile, and then leading into Downtown Cairo. La Bodega (and Drinkie’s - The Bottle Shop) are located on the North side of 26th of July Street, and are both on the first block West of the Nile.brbr
Look for an unmarked door at No. 157 and go inside, walking up the spiral staircase to La Bodega. Lonely Planet 2005 states that this restaurant is one of the best 4 in Zamalek.
