82 Very cosy establishment, mix of modern and rural elements, nice selection of one-off beers. Decent food, making it worth the trip. Can get very busy though. Bring boots when it’s raining, because the parking lot can get really muddy. |
90 Amazing place owned and directed by the "urthel" owners.. The service is really good and the food as well, amazing the steak with beer sauce.. Delicious! The beer selection comprehen only urthel beers but the whisky selection is impressive..The restaurant is in the Belgian countryside, really amazing location and atmosphere.. Definitely to visit if u pass by! |
90 Nice restaurant/brewpub in The Middle Of nowhere! We were really lucky to find this hidden gem! This place is very nice, looks brand new, in front of the restaurant there’s a tiny beautiful brew house. Totally managed by the members of a family, and really managed well! Food is simply outstanding and the beers are all Urthel recipes with a different touch. Will definitely return, and I hope in future they will be open more days Por week. Huge selection of nice whisky too! |
84 New Proeflokaal (=tasting room), around a 150 l. pilot microbrewery (Spadoni, It., and a little gem in its kind), with a fine open terrace, located between woodlands and agricultural areas. The brewery will be the pilot brewery for the big Urthel products, hailing from La Trappe, and experiments, as well as barrel aging will be done here. The barrels (including St. Emilion winebarrels) are awaiting now.
The proeflokaal is opened on Saturdays, Sundays and official holidays, as well as on reservation. Seen its location, it will attract no doubt lots of hikers, bikers and other green tourist developing a healthy thirst for the Erthel-brewed beverages. For the occasional cartourist, it will be a little hard to find, GPS notwithstanding, and if it gets busy, parking space immediately in front will be rather limited - the wider surroundings, however, will solve your problems.
At this moment, only brewing will start, but in the foreseeable future, small restauration will be provided - remark that for legal reasons, it cannot and will not be called a brewery and restaurant but an "eet- en brouwhuis".
Seen the professionality of Hildegard and Bas, I’m sure this place will be a real hit, in an area that is slowly but surely developing from a beerwasteland, into an area for the knowledgeable. Warmly recommended!
Review 11/08 New restaurant finished, now with 7 beertaps, all made in loco. Further serious beercuisine (possibility for fooipairing and whiskypairing!), and whiskytasting (about 300 different malts, blended and Bourbons to be tried. Catering possible. |
