| FatPhil (106), Espoo, Finland | | October 7, 2007 Brew-pub - tasty beers - even the lagers. Sunday fish buffet isn’t cheap, but is very tasty. As are the bangers. Friendly staff, often served by the brewmaster himself. Great setting, not just the bar/terrace, but the whole island complex. | | KnutAlbert (129), Oslo, Norway | | July 8, 2007 Lovely food, nice terrace. The porter was fine, the pilsener was OK, the Coyet Ale was boring in a Kilkenny sort of way. A great excursion on a summer day. | | spporras (21), , Finland | | April 21, 2006 [ Updated June 16, 2008 ] This brewpub is located on Suomenlinna island in Helsinki, 15 min ferry trip from Kauppatori (Market Square). Suomenlinna sea fortress is not in military use any more (except the Naval Academy), but one can still feel the atmosphere of a garrison (see www.suomenlinna.fi). The brewpub is located just in front of the ferry wharf in an nice old building. The house beer selection in June 2008 was ’Höpken Pils’, ’Helsinki-Portteri’, ’Spithead Bitter’ and ’Amphion Ale’. Also, Lapin Kulta III and IV were available for those who want to taste the golden beer of Lapland :-). Service was friendly. There is also a patio and a private dining room. The place is highly recommended to those who want to taste decent house beers and enjoy the cultural heritage of Helsinki at the Suomenlinna sea fortress. | | Sigmund (69), Hafrsfjord, Norway | | January 7, 2006 This vaulted brewpub is situated in a listed building (once an arsenal) at the former Swedish (later Russian and Finnish) military island stronghold Sveaborg (since 1918 Suomenlinna) near Helsinki - now a UNESCO world heritage site, historically very interesting. I liked their Coyet Ale very much, the porter was somewhat less appealing to me but still drinkable. Their pilsener was the third beer on, but I did not have it. Unremarkable food. Worth a visit. | | sayravai (82), Helsinki, Finland | | August 3, 2005 Nice surroundings, food available (not tested), a variable selection of local beers available. Worth a visit, and a re-visit, too, if you’re in Suomenlinna. | | TBone (114), Pori, Finland | | February 20, 2005 This is the first building you will see when you enter the island. Airy, old building serving a couple of their own brews and Lapin Kulta. You can see brewing equipment on the way to toilet. |
