Excellent dingy bar atmosphere. The bartenders on a lowered floor is takes a little getting used to. The brews were interesting. We just happened in one afternoon and we enjoyed ourselves. Didn’t try the food.

Went here passing by heading back to Tampa after a visit to Jacksonville. I heard they may have as many as one house beer on tap or less. I was lucky since one was indeed on. It is a small place with raised wooden floor around the bar with very little seating. The patio seating worked well for my visit. On the down side: I swear I was getting the “stink eye” from some or almost all of the locals that certainly frequent this place, the pervasive smoking inside and out, the one house brew was pretty bad and the guest taps are very weak with Longhammer as the rarest and tastiest offering. On the positive side: the patio seating was very relaxing and made for a perfect place to take a break from driving, the person behind the bar was friendly and tried to steer us away from the house brew, a local I talked to briefly was friendly, the boiled peanuts were complimentary and pretty darn tasty. Actually I was very happy about the boiled peanuts. It was an interesting experience. If I happen by Gainesville again and they have a new house beer on I’ll likely, scratch that, will stop by.

Visited with ibrew2or3. Not sure this is a brewery. They seem to have one rotating homebrewer tap. The rest of the beer offerings are nothing special, lousy at best. Seemed more like a small neighborhood / biker bar. After checking the crummy bathroom I would not try to eat anything cooked there. Can’t go wrong with free boiled peanuts and a $2 pint for the homebrew. Would not go out of the way to stop there but nice to stop by when going through Gainsville just to get a FL rating.

This place is very old school, which in Florida means weak. The service is fine - interesting note on that. The service area behind the bar is lowered, which makes the poor bartenders look like midgets. Seriously. The beer is pretty bad - extract kit stuff. Guest taps are better. Prices, though, are low. Food is lousy. Could be ok if it was full of drunken students but alas, that didn’t seem to happen much. Just go to Stubbies and Steins.

Good location in the middle of central Gainesville. Cheap happy hours. Pool tables. Smoking permitted. Outdoor seating and across from the best coffee shop in the state, Volta.

Going to Volta after Market Street offers distinct advantages: 1. It will clean your palate with elite coffee 2. Will give you something to look forward to after spending 20 minutes in this dank, dark, smokey, depressing bar. 3. Prevents you from committing suicide 4. Invigorates you for the 5 minute walk to Subbies & Steins, which is a great place.
