10 reviews for Bold City Brewery
| beernoevil (27), Suwanee, Georgia | | November 27, 2009 Great people, great beer, great value. Nuff said! | | marchcow (36), Coralville, Iowa | | November 19, 2009 Nice little brewery. Had a sampler and like everthing on it. Prices were very good. Nice brewpub with a big window into the brewery and folks hanging around on a Saturday afternoon. Laid back atmosphere and friendly staff. | | Ibrew2or3 (161), Safety Harbor, Florida | | September 6, 2009 This is a little warehouse packaging brewery with small air-conditioned tasting room built in at the front. They were readily filling one gallon growlers nearly one after the other during my extended visit. So the beer seems popular which is great. The staff is friendly in this family run establishment. The beer is as good as or better than anything else made for a hundred and fifty miles in any direction. The brewer Brian graciously showed us around. I will certainly visit again if I can get back to this area of FL. | | sebletitje (78), Tampa, Florida | | August 16, 2009 Visited with ibrew2or3.
Finally a place worth stopping at in Jax.
Small brewery in what appeared to be the hood.
Inside sports a nice tasting room with a window overlooking to the brewery itself.
10 beers on tap, free sampler tray and amazingly cheap pints.
Service was friendly and very family oriented which is a welcome change from anything else we had seen in the other JAX breweries so far.
They are doing great stuff in that town, and my only concern is some of the beers that appeared to be very one dimensional and thin in body.
Lots of local people coming in to refill the 1gal growlers.
Really good location and the best brewery in JAX bare none. | | azorie (17), Florida | | August 11, 2009 I hate to rate hometown things, so expect you to cheer lead. I want to be fair and honest. Of course its just me and the wife opinions. I have chatting with and like Brain.
His mother is nice and the service here is top rate, 96% of the time. i can live with it.
Its fresh beer and that is Fantastic. THe good points, its local, fresh and cheaper than hitting a bar, and the growler prices at 10 and 15 a refill is great.
The bad points. I don’t want a bud clone, of course its his brewery he can do what he wants and heck maybe his vision will work brew for the mass, which is probably best. ok the facts, I been here 11 times. Some with friends some times alone. I want to like these beers, but after having everyone he made so far, they all taste the same to me and my wife and others. Be BOLD man, ok that my 2 cents | | PorterPounder (181), Tallahassee, Florida | | June 21, 2009 Great new little brewery near downtown Jacksonville - just off I-10. Has a taproom with limited hours and the place was packed when we went there on a Saturday night. They offer a free 10 beer sampler - servings are too small to get a proper rating (unless you are a serious ticker with no shame) but if provides you a good idea of what to order. All were decent - no boundary stretchers here but also did not notice a "house taste" which was nice. Will look for them around town as they have taps at several locations. Stop by if you are going through Jacksonville on I-10. Very friendly crew working there and the place is kid-friendly and customers appeared to be regulars and were really enjoying themselves. | | Immy (88), Virginia Beach, Virginia | | May 3, 2009 Set up in an old warehouse, the owners have built a nice little tap room. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I sampled 11 different brews, and all of them were pretty damn good. There is a fun local vibe here, and at least 4 people struck up conversations while we hung out there, including the brewer. If you are in the area, this is a must see. It’s unfortunate they have such limited hours. It is worth noting that they apparently don’t serve food, but there is a guy who sets up a grill out front and cooks up burgers and stuff. We had an absolute BLAST here! | | Beershine (268), Traipsing Around, Cambodia | | February 6, 2009 Warehouse in a funky old Jax hood. Friendly place with small casual taproom. Brand new and full of promise. Brewer has a bit of a rye fetish, which is a great way to expand the palate. So great to see this become a part of the FL craft beer scene. If here, Kickbacks is a cool bar about a mile away worth visiting on the same trip, and they will likely have some Bold City brews on tap there too. | | Oakes (422), Kowloon, Hong Kong | | January 16, 2009 Small tap room at the rustic brewery in Jacksonville. The lineup is great, and we had solid service from one of the brewers. It was a fun time had by all. | | PhillyBeer2112 (57), Orange Park, Florida | | December 1, 2008 A cozy little tasting room in this converted warehouse brewpub in a little industrial section of the Riverside neighborhood of Jax. The people are friendly but it did seem like the one of the servers knew virtually nothing about the beer. Food was available, apparently sold separately by a guy outside, but his corn and shrimp chowder was damned good with the smoky porter on an unusually cold evening. I didn’t ask about a tour but they brewing operation is set up way in the back of the warehouse. The tasting room (with one unisex bathroom) appears to be converted from what was once the warehouse front office. The beers aren’t exciting but are executed well with no major flaws. 1 gallon growlers are available ($10 for the growler, $10 for the fill, although some beers are noted as "premium" and cost more for a fill). A 1 oz sampler flight is free! |
