| MrRoss (13), Delta, British Columbia | | July 8, 2009 This place was crap from the get-go. From the inattentive service (bar server was more interested in chatting up some guy at the other end of the bar) to the mediocre beers to not opening until 5:30 PM (c’mon, Paris is the big city!), I was glad to put it all behind me. Perhaps I’m now in the wrong age group (not young and hip although I AM anglophile), but I was glad to put this behind me. The place seemed to be more of a private club with far more idle staff socializing amongst themselves, and a few self-absorbed ex-pat Brits who I can only describe as "Prince Harry wannabe’s". | | Oakes (421), gone rambling, Vietnam | | June 11, 2009 This place sucked. It is first of all kind of downtrodden, but in a depressing way not a good way. The music was atrocious and the sound terrible. The beers were lousy and overpriced. Nothing to recommend, we couldn’t get out of their fast enough. | | Beershine (261), Where Climate Suits My Clothes, Vietnam | | June 11, 2009 Atmosphere is grungy, like it wants to be a dive bar but failed. The sound system is about the same quality as those found on Indian advert trucks: so tinny it hurts and they crank up lame tunes really high so they become distorted. Not a beery place either, and the beers were lame and expensive. Very disappointing in a city that otherwise really cares about the quality of life. | | bhensonb (287), Woodland, California | | June 9, 2008 Woody sort of place in a modern way. Seems a bit of up and down, stoop. The ale seems the same as the Rosbif, but this is a quieter area. Opens rather late in the day. For me it’s more copasetic than a stuffy brasserie. | | BMan1113VR (111), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas | | March 13, 2008 Paris. Went on Tuesday, i.e. College night. Brews are 5 euros, mixed shots 2, straight shots 4 (when I asked for whiskey I got a shot of Jonnie Walker Red label). Had their stout and ESB not too bad, but not great. Very crowded, hot, humid, and sweaty atmosphere. Banged my head pretty hard on a low ceiling try to get in to the baathroom (I am only 6’3 and the ceiling was about 5’8). Not bad, not a great place. Crappy music. | | fiulijn (198), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy | | January 22, 2008 Same selection as the other ones, but I prefer this ambiance to the one in Saint-Denis. | | GeneralGao (220), Iowa City, Iowa | | May 16, 2007 [ Updated February 14, 2008 ] British style brewpub in the 6th arr. They had six beers on tap the day I visited...some good some average. It wasn’t very crowded when we arrived, but apparently Tuesday night = student night, and things picked up quite a bit around 9 PM-ish. Service was decent until the crowd showed up...as you’d expect. Very smoky. Bad top 40 music. Had some nachos which were pretty subpar, but this is an English style pub in Paris...nachos may not have been the best tactical decision. Worth a visit to try the beer. Go early in the evening to avoid the crowd. |
