| lithy (93), Knoxville, Tennessee | | November 17, 2009 7 beers available with space for several more. A bit darker than the other 5 Seasons locations. If you sit at the bar you can stare right into the brewery area behind glass. Samplers were done in nice wide glasses like the North location, unlike the Westside location. | | darn1207 (24), Tallahassee, Florida | | November 13, 2009 Nice brewpub. I’d passed it over a few times assuming it was a run of the mill chain type place. Definitely not so. This is a solid brewery and restaurant. The service was fantastic and the food was good. As to the beer... I came packing their highest rated list on my fancy new phone and was a little disappointed to only find one out of ten or so available. I was told that the others came and went on a seasonal basis and that there was a new brewmaster. Not sure what that means for their previous high marks, but figured I’d mention it. We got a couple samplers that covered their line - all were well built brews. A few were in flavors we don’t normally go for - but were deemed to be quality examples. The big winner of the night was the only one on my list that was available - the Hopgasm. Overall, high marks. Looking forward to trying the ones I missed. | | Tmoney99 (254), Cincinnati, Ohio | | September 17, 2009 Mid-afternoon visit made it easy to find and park my motorcycle directly out front.
Nice location in the back of a shopping plaza with the bar in the middle with the brewing directly behind bar. Good selection of their brews and let me sample them at my pace to rate. Staff had good knowledge of the beers and were very freindly and the management work with to sample their bottle selections. Due to time of day, I did not get to eat. Nice place and well worth the visit. Thank You for the gift. | | jzzbassman (16), New Albany, Mississippi | | March 19, 2009 Slow night we got good attention and service. Seems the specials rocked for food and were a better value than the menu. The Red Ribeye with the onion rings, horseradish, and candied brussel sprouts were perfect and well worth the money. Not so much on the quail appetizer. Not happy about spending $10 for 4 quail wings when I thought I might get a little more meat than this.
The famed Fried French Chicken my wife got was so so, but the veggie slaw was spectacular.
Bonus points for the best dessert I’ve ever had in a brewpub. The Strawberry mousse covered in Belgian Chocolate was just ridiculous. | | CheersMate1 (34), Atlanta, Georgia | | February 6, 2009 This place was pretty good, as far as sitting at the bar. I’m guessing there is a new brewer because he has his inauguration beer, which was a Common beer that wasn’t that great. Anyways, the place was slam packed. It was ridiculous. My friends and I were able to find seats at the bar thank God. The bartender who I am guessing is the brewer was slow at times, but really fast at others. My first drink came out almost immediately, which was the Hopgasm, which was an awesome IPA, but then I ordered the barley wine, and he took his sweet ass time with it. The beers were above average I must say. The place was just too crowded for my liking. Oh ya, the food is crap. I had this quail buffalo appetizer that was ridiculous as far as the portion. I was figuring they would give a part of the quail that was all meet because there were only 5 small pieces, but they gave pieces with bone that pratically had no meat. I didn’t have an entree, but if they are anything like the appetizers then no thank you. I will just stick | | Beershine (261), Where Climate Suits My Clothes, Vietnam | | February 2, 2009 Front bar closes earlier than the basement area. Loud, impersonal, neutral environment. Smoking allowed in the basement. | | Oakes (421), gone rambling, Vietnam | | January 29, 2009 Big, corporate brewpub. They had a wide range on tap, some of which was quite enjoyable. The staff seemed kind of tired, which was something of a downer. A decent stop. | | Hank1980 (37), Athens, Georgia | | October 26, 2008 [ Updated September 8, 2009 ] Nice brewpub & restaurant. Beers are solid. There’s almost always a few excellent brews on tap. Food is good, though a little overpriced, or maybe just over the top for a brewpub. If you just want a sandwich and a beer at dinner time, you should go elsewhere. Plan on dropping at least $50 if you want to eat and drink. Overall, a good place for beer and a nice dinner. ***** Returned and had a great time. Came for lunch, much more reasonable, and probably the best loaf of bread I’ve ever had. Friendly, surly, and funny bar service. Had a great time. Excellent brews! | | nearbeer (98), Knoxville, Tennessee | | October 9, 2008 Urban upscale brewpub restaurant with only 5 selections of the house brews on tap, and only three ales: ESB, Nut Brown and Porter. The beers were all good, but I was expecting some bigger and better brews here. Pizza and service was good. As others stated previously, not really worth the hassle of fighting through traffic to seek out, but a nice choice if in the area. | | cchubb (12), Minneola, Florida | | September 25, 2008 I visited the Prado location on September 24th after a business meeting. After reading great reviews of the place, I have to admit that I was less than impressed overall.
First, I found the most lacking element was courteous service. When I enter a pub, especially one not overly busy, I expect to be greeted and asked my pleasure. I found my own way to the bar where there were only 3 or 4 other patrons, yet it took me 10 minutes to get a notice from the lady tending bar. She seemed unable to answer many questions about the beer but did give me a beer menu and a regular menu. Her replies seemed grudging and perfunctory, usually replying over her shoulder while walking away. It left me feeling unwelcome. I finally gave up trying to either ask her questions or give her orders.
But I came for the beer, and this is what the review is about, right? They have 5 beers on the menu, but one was not available and one extra was still around. Here are my impressions:
Copperhead ESB: Not an ESB. Lacking in almost every English character. Overly hopped with Cascade and so stuffed with caramel malts that it tasted like a Sugar Daddy dipped in pine tar.
Festbier: Their Oktoberfest offering was lacking in any melanoidin richness and had a strong soapy character and evident dicetyl notes. Perhaps it was forced and hasn’t lagered long enough or maybe I just got a glass that hadn’t had the dish soap rinsed off.
Helles: Finally a beer to style with strong Tettanang hop bite and just the right low malt breadiness and a slight melanoidin richness. Slight astringency in the finish. Their most mainstream beer, but a nice example.
Tripel: Not on the menu, never offered to me, but she poured it from a secondary set of taps and I spotted her doing it, so asked for a sample. 15 minutes later I got one. I shouldn’t have bothered. It had a strong orange aroma, like Tang, and the flavor was of sour honey with distinct fusel high alcohols. Dark and still too sweet for the style. I didn’t even finish my 1 ounce taster.
I also had the calamari appetizer. The food is not cheap here. A cereal bowl of calamari was $10 and 75% of the bowl is filled with fried onion bits. I had been planning on eating dinner here, but bailed after just the appetizer. It would have cost me at least $50 to eat here if I had a salad and an entree. |
