| oh6gdx (93), Vasa, Finland | | October 19, 2009 OK place, which was a bit slow during lunchhours. I had a schnietzl here, nice size. The garden area was quite nice. Service could have been more a bit faster and more friendly, but during busy hours certain staleness is probably to be accepted. Some of the beers I had, had some problems with toffeelike notes (not necessarily diacetyl). | Namako (7), APO AE, does not count - explanation | | August 30, 2009 Very nice brewpub. Cozy, friendly and warm. Beer selection is outstanding. I’m particularly fond of their Zwergla, a dark märzen. Wanted to try the doppelbock, but I was too early in the season. I’ll be BACK!! Next time, I’ll also book a room here - nice, central location and within walking distance to a couple of other fine brewpubs. They’re right across the street from Spezial, they’re just down the road from Maisel Bamberger Weissbier Haus, and Mahr’s Brau is just a short 10-minute walk away. | | Beershine (268), Traipsing Around, Cambodia | | June 21, 2009 I find this to be one of the more depressing places to drink in Bamberg (beer-wise and atmospherically) but it’s a must nonetheless, just because it’s traditional. I’ve stayed here before and the rooms are a very good value. | | Oakes (422), Kowloon, Hong Kong | | June 11, 2009 Good stop, full of old people. The service was a bit sketchy, compared with other places in Bavaria. The beers are ok - I loved the Pils but found the lager full of diacetyl. | | Slayer85 (12), Firenze, Italy | | September 21, 2008 A nice place with 4-5 worthy beers (especially the Helles). The rooms are quite good and at a reasonable price. I didn’t eat there apart the breakfast that was quite good. | | KyotoLefty (132), Kyoto, Japan | | September 21, 2008 You just must stay here if you can. Book way, way ahead. I only tried 2-3 or their beers. They were regular styles but they were great. It is a simple place that is very nice. | | sebletitje (78), Tampa, Florida | | August 23, 2008 Timewrap compared to the historical center of Bamberg. It was not our first destination, but Brauerei Sepial across the street was closed until September.Place looked old with the funky smell of old places.
Beer was not bad, 3 choices of Fässla beer, but nothing too exiting.
Food was not as good as all other places we visited. The tomato soup looked more like canned soup, the rest of the menu was the typical pork, sausage and panned fish.
Overall it remains fairly cheap, but maybe too high for the quality you get. | | ¾ (620), Boulder, Colorado | | June 4, 2008 Intricate and rustic old German architecture. We visited after a 30km bike ride to cool down with some cold beer. A small inner courtyard is darkened by shade, and it’s a comfortable place to unwind and have a couple of drinks. The Pils was quite tasty, while the Helles was downright delicious. Right across the street from Spezial so be sure to hit up both of them at once. | | Goldorak (110), Montreal, Quebec | | September 26, 2007 This place is a lot more worn down than the others, it didn’t seem like the historical timewarp that Schlenkerla was, it was more like an old man’s tavern, the Moose’s lodge you grandpa hung out in. Oddly, it seemed to be more of a twentysomething hangout, even on a weekday afternoon. If there’s a no smoking section in there, I didn’t find it, but our little corner wasn’t too bad, but bad enough not to eat or have more than one Beer. The house lager vom fass was good, but not great. Service was typical, our waiter was prompt with our order but turned into the invisible man when it was time for Zahlen bitte. | | skortila (65), Bunnik, Netherlands | | September 12, 2007 Not the best beerplace in Bamberg. However it has a cosey beergarten and friendly staff. Good place to relax with a nice beer along. |
