| Oakes (421), gone rambling, Vietnam | | July 23, 2009 They had four barrels on the counter on our first visit, including the Bock. It’s a big keller, but it’s pretty, too. Up on a hill but no view. The food looked pretty damn assembly line so I didn’t bother. The Wilde Rose beers are nothing to write home about, though the pils isn’t bad. Worth a stop, though, if you’re going to Spezial Keller anyway. | | Beershine (261), Where Climate Suits My Clothes, Vietnam | | June 21, 2009 [ Updated July 22, 2009 ] Keller is excellent, no view but top-notch beer garten. Stammitch table gets its own friggin wood keg! Leafy, large, lovely. Self serve. Love it.
Rating for the Kesslerstrasse stube, not the keller...it’s a bright, cheery place with traditional decor. Excellent service, very good food including some kick-as roasted potatoes. Would return just for those...look forward to a visit to the keller up the hill. | | jfb (18), Weihenstephan, Germany | | May 5, 2009 My favourite Bamberger Keller. Perfect for picnics, with a nice family atmosphere and a great selection of beers (aside from the excellent house beers, Keesmann Herrenpils and Schlenkerla Rauchbier are also available). Food is your standard inexpensive Biergarten fare. The best place in Bamberg for a quiet sunny evening. | | pivnizub (273), Bochum, Porúří, Germany | | September 4, 2008 Nice Keller, but not the best one in Bamberg. No views, mediocre brews, good for a break, but not good enough for a cheery evening. | | LaMichael (599), Colorado | | June 4, 2008 A fantastic German biergarten located up the keller straat on the southwest side of Bamberg. A large number of shaded picnic tables, three ordering windows for beer, food and desserts. Families, couples, groups of kids, everyone was out enjoying some good beer and good (and cheap) eats. Some people brought their own food and tablecloths, even. Combine the Wilde Rose with a visit to Spezial Keller down the street and around the corner and you’ve got a great night of drinking and socializing. | | mullet (133), Melbourne, Australia | | January 31, 2008 I’m pretty surprised to see so few ratings for this place. My favourite of Bamberg’s kellers, despite not having the views of, say, Spezi or Mahr’s. In fact it’s probably my second-favourite place in Bamberg. It’s a monster place, with a huge number of picnic tables in amongst very large trees. On warm nights the place fills up with local families who bring their own picnics and buy beers, but they also have your basic German beer cuisine available to buy. Beers are fantastic - seemingly brewed at Maisel but the Wilde Rose Kellerbier tastes way better than Maisel Kellerbier. They also serve Schlenkerla via gravity, Pils and Weizen. Grab a picnic dinner and settle in here for the night. | | Emil (52), Copenhagen, Denmark | | March 27, 2007 Was there for one beer, it was good, but found out that there Bock bier is acturly brewed at Maisel, so is there Helles, but there Keller bier is good. | | MartinT (348), Montreal, Quebec | | May 25, 2006 [ Updated June 24, 2006 ] The last of the 3 kellers when you walk up Stephansberg, also the largest, as there are literally hundreds of tables under the tall trees. Lots of families come here to picnic with their kids. There is practically a full schoolyard game set at the back of the keller. They have 2 beers on tap here, purportedly brewed by Maisel. What matters though is that both are splendid, the Kellerbier wildly hoppy and earthy, the Pils very clean and fluffy; both bear the Franconian personality. A few meters up from Spezial Keller, so both are easily doable on the same evening if you feel like it. |
