| Radek Kliber (26), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario | | January 29, 2009 Good spot in city centre. Average service , fairly to the point. Served great beer. | | Immy (88), Virginia Beach, Virginia | | August 6, 2008 Insanely busy, but our server was pretty attentive. Authentic old German feel to the decor. Did not try the food, but it looked delish. A must see. | cluny6 (2), Cambridge, England does not count - explanation | | July 17, 2008 One of the best Koelsch. This is not a style I fancy but I liked this one. The food looked deliscious but I didnt try it. Traditional german grub. My beef is with the service, I went on a saturday afternoon and it took almost 20 min to get a beer. The kobes are very rude. I asked repeadetly for a beer and was ignored. The kobe would come out with a tray full of beer (about 12) and would serve german locals first, even thought I had been waiting for a while. On Sunday, the place was not busy and the service was worls apart. Very nice Kobe kept our beer comming without asking. In short: The best Koelsch I tried, awfull service on a busy day, excellent service on a quiet day. | | pivnizub (273), Bochum, Porúří, Germany | | May 14, 2008 Formerly called Altstadt-Päffgen, this authetically furnished Brauhaus serves now a very good Pfaffen-Kölsch (after a severe argument in the Päffgen-family, the one Mr. Päffgen, who is not the owner of the brewery at the Friesenstrasse, decided to do its own brewery). Often very crowded, but a must, when You are in Cologne........ | | DSG (41), Tel Aviv, Israel | | January 23, 2008 [ Updated August 18, 2008 ] This place was slightly more crowded than all other Kölsch brewpubs I visited that August noon. Still, service was good and it was quite quiet and cosy. The Köbes seemed a little annoyed when he wanted re-fill my glass after the first beer and I said no (I had too many other beers to drink that day). Still, the Kölsch is very good and one of the best ones. | | eaglefan538 (90), Wilmington, Delaware | | January 18, 2008 Nice quiet small brewery in the altstadt nord of Koln along a run of great stops. The outdoor area is refreshing and relaxing late on a weekend morning. Service is friendly and the beer is super fresh, poured from the wooden barrell in only 0.25L glasses to ensure your beer is fresh while drinking. Didn’t have any food, and the selection was minimal, but with the quality of their own beer, you won’t want anything else. | | Rastacouere (475), Montréal, Quebec | | June 9, 2007 Very very crowded pub with the many tourists entering and leaving at a great rythm. The interior is very nice, long and rather narrow with absolutely authentic furniture, more greenery than most and friendly, efficient waiters. The one who washed the glasses must be the quickest ever at what he’s doing. A good experience, the kölsch is a fine example on the malty side. | | fonefan (23), VestJylland, Denmark | | October 16, 2006 Nice place in the middel of Alt Stadt. Very busy. Food looked very nice. Sampled some Pfaffen Kölsch here. | | ¾ (631), Boulder, Colorado | | June 21, 2006 The hours on this place are odd, it was not open at all, as far as I could tell, on the first day in Koln, which was a Monday. Tuesday it was not open until the evening, but when we arrived it was very packed, though I found a table near the bar to stand at. Service was prompt and polite, beer quality was decent, probably average to slightly above average for Kolsch found in town. Located right on the Huemarkt, it’s hard to miss the hideously ugly orange building. Within shouting distance to about 3-4 other places serving their own Kolsch. | | imdownthepub (85), Banbury, England | | November 3, 2005 We chose to go inside on a nice sunny day and we had the place to ourselves, which was great because we were able to beat our record for getting served a Kolsch. Nice traditional pub with plenty to interest. The outside drinking areas are well used if a little uncomfortable, but inside its a comfy relaxing place. |
