Hofbrauhaus is a great touristy place to go in Munchen at least once. With the typical oompa band and waiters in garb, it had all the atmosphere of a good touristy brauhaus. Due to the crowd, the service was a bit slow. Everything was pretty highly priced, but nothing beats having a Hofbrau brew in the Hofbrauhaus.

Well, this is a place that everybody should visit once, but I think once is enough. Typically full of tourists, many of them young Americans. All beers but one come in 1L mugs only, which is a frustratingly stupid tourist ploy meant to amplify the faux-authenticity of this place to the ignorant. After spending a couple of days in the garden of eden known as Franconia, this was about the furtherest thing I wanted to do, sit in a crowded, loud, fake German beer hall. I’m sure at some point years ago this was the real deal, but not anymore. The Sommer bier was tasty though, all 1000 ml of it.

Huge and very loud and busy tourist place. Came here only because of HB history. Nice beer but not so good food. Had Original Hofbräuhaus mixed sausage plattern. Three different sausages with mashed potatoes and cabbage served cold and prepared who knows when.

Required for any München jaunt. The night I went it really wasn’t that busy. We had wonderful service, especially considering how hard this place is hit by tourists. Food was standard German fare but one’s first 1L dimple mug experience is one to remember.

Always crowded, with a band downstairs and various forms of traditional entertainment in the area upstairs. Also a restaurant on one of the levels where the food is OK and the service good. I must say that I wasn’t amazed by the beer here - I’ve had better at other places in Munich. But nevertheless a good atmosphere, and the beer is served by the litre which can’t be bad.

Went here on the Friday. It dominates the corner and in fact much of the street on which it stands but I will say it is definitely worth venturing inside. The beer was actually very good, the place was buzzing with a smattering of locals amongst the hoard’s of beer glass clinking tourist’s, and their was an oompah bad knocking out a few presumably Bavarian numbers. Where it loses the odd mark is for the attitude of the staff, surly and quite naughty i.e. Here is your change and this is my tip, thank you the tip was taken without even my consent and then surly waiter shot off to his next mug to get his tip. Despite that one annoyance well worth going to.

No prejudices: Even though this is a very well known, touristy place, it is nevertheless worth a visit. The atmosphere is quite original, the prices are reasonable and the shady garden in the yard is by all means worth a detour.....

Had a great time at the Hofbrauhaus. We did have one hiccup however...we (I) knocked over an empty liter glass and it shattered on the floor. At the time, there was a Oompa band in there playing. As soon as that glass hit the floor the whole place stopped, turned towards me and started to boo me, lol!

Absolutely legendary. A near-perfect experience every time, I would imagine. Don’t miss the weisswurst if you’re looking for something unusual: it’s like marshmallow meat.
