October 12, 2009 Nice and friendly pub not far from Manchester city center. The building is slightly worn down. Bar is surrounded by a large lounge. 6 handpumps with interesting real ales, mainly from smaller brewers. Beers well kept. Visited on a fairly slow Thursday afternoon, so I suppose it could be livelier. Friendly and efficient service. Close to The New Oxford, so drop by if you’re in the area. |

August 21, 2009 [RBESG 2009] Quick visit. Long bar but narrow place for the guests. Small cask selection. Ok for a quick visit. |

July 30, 2009 Just stopped for a quick pint or two at RBESG, so didn’t really get a feeling for the place. Rather small, a good few casks of fair quality on the day. Comfy with a big jukebox. Relatively light. Quite fast service despite 20 RB-ians stumbling in at once. |

July 24, 2009 Went in for a quick stop during RBESG. Small pub with a spacious bar. Limited portfolio of real ales, but good enough for a few ratings. Friendly service and affordable. |

July 24, 2009 Visited during RBESG 09. Nicely decorated bar, looks new. Lots of wood. Brightly lit by the light coming in through the large windows, high ceiling here. Tap range wasn’t something to go out of the way for. Were here for only 5 minutes or so, so can’t really judge the ambiance. |

April 18, 2008 [ Updated March 22, 2009 ] Attractive building and decor. Decent range of ales - 2 scoops out of 6 for me. Food was excellent. The bar-person was friendly although her style would be best described as brassy and not always the most attentive. I’d certainly come back here although it probably isn’t up there with the best Manchester ale houses in terms of selection. |

August 10, 2007 On the crawl if you’re heading into Manchester from the Crescent / New Oxford. Large pub with a reasonable range of ales which tend to be the local breweries. Good music pub if you like bands they are often playing here. |

September 6, 2006 An institution in Manchester, this pub has seen lots of changes in it’s lifetime including the new eyesore blocks of flats being constructed all around it. Not as good as it used to be in it’s heyday, but still serves up six of so local beers from Bazens, for example, and is a good stopping off point on the way to the crescent. |
