September 8, 2009 Conveniently located in River North, Fado is part of a national chain with about a dozen locations. Very traditional looking from the outside, the inside is wood-heavy and has three levels, a first floor bar with seating, a mezzanine with some dining tables, and a top floor seating area. I enjoyed the environment, though it bordered on too kitschy, with old Irish themes on display everywhere. The food is above average Irish pub food and everyone at our table was satisfied- corned beef sandwich, burger, salad. I’m not sure this place qualifies to be on this site because of its limited selection of exactly what one would expect from a chain Irish pub: Guinness, Smithwicks, Boddingtons, Strongbow, Harp, Bass, Newcastle, Sam Adams, Pilsner Urquell, Hacker Pschorr, Heineken, Stella, and Miller Lite are the taps available. The bottle selection is less impressive. There is a decent selection of Irish Whiskeys and Scotches available. |
