| hopdog (176), Lansdale, Pennsylvania | | July 22, 2008 12 beers on tap with 6 of them seasonals. Waitress initially didn’t want to give me a sampler including the seasonals...I had to persist on her asking the Bartender and Manager. Turned out it was no problem. | | heemer77 (134), Savannah, Missouri | | July 1, 2008 I went here recently and was pleasantly pleased. I knew the brewer from his former days in Iowa and was looking forward to seeing how things were going. The beers were solid overall with a couple of stand outs. They are planning on doing some barrel aged goods in the near future. I hate to judge the food based on a salad, but it was just ok. A very large facility with a big patio area. I would visit if back in the area, but not go out of my way. | | Walt (184), Chicago, Illinois | | May 15, 2008 Huge restaurant/bar type place...didn’t try any of the 6 house beers but did try the 6 seasonals and almost every one of them was spot on perfect! It is a trek from the city, but if you head out this way you must stop in here. | cgs027 (5), Illinois does not count | | September 28, 2007 After having avoided this place for quite a while, I was happy to learn that a new chef AND brewer had taken over in the last 6 months or so. And it definitely shows. All of the standard beers have been re-worked, and are the better for it. The new head brewer (formerly from Millstream in Iowa) must be working his ass off here--8 regular house beers plus 4 seasonals last time I was there. Of the seasonals, the Brown Rye, the Pilsner (Czech style), and the Octoberfest were all very nice. And the food has taken huge leaps forward, too. They now feature rotating weekly fresh seafood specials, such as Blue Marlin, Sunfish, etc. Very recommended (and this is coming from someone who had essentially written them off about a year ago)! | | Arnie (17), Chicagoland, IL, Illinois | | July 1, 2007 Been to Govnor’s a few times now. It’s new-er and hasn’t really found that "wll-worn" pub feel I like, but their beers aren’t bad, and they put on a good BrewDaze fest. | | gws57 (74), Saint Charles, Illinois | | July 17, 2006 Came here and went inside during the Brew Daze 2006. I liked the atmosphere. A bit too trendy for me, but the service was brisk and the beers were good. Nice! | | KAggie97 (122), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring , Texas | | July 10, 2006 Nice atmosphere with great service. Had the fish and chips, and they were quite tasty; some of the best I’ve had. The beer is mediocre, but worth the price of a sampler (which I had). The pale ale is the best, in my opinion. | | The_Enemy (40), Chicago, | | December 14, 2005 [ Updated April 5, 2006 ] Precisely what one would expect from a brewpub inhabiting an out-lot in freshly minted suburban strip-mall Hell: faux-Irish decor that is actually almost convincing, overpriced overglorified pub grub presented as a dinner menu, drab beer whose only purpose is to give legitimacy to the claim that "hey, we’re a brewpub, we brew our own beer, and by extension, we’re trendy & cool." The food sucked so hard that I feared it was going to create a vortex of culinary suckage right on my table. My chicken "tenders" were so tough I had to saw through them with a steak knife. Service was flaky and passed by several times without acknowledging me or noticing my glass was empty. Final annoyance: extending the corny Irish theme to the beer names can produce spectacularly baffling results, such as the "Dublin Dunkelweizenbock." Huh? Has anyone in Dublin ever actually brewed a Dunkelweizenbock, or even heard of it? Bottom line: contrived and lame. Pass this place up. | | Cornfield (135), Oak Forest, Illinois | | September 5, 2005 I liked the barroom, nice simulated old fashioned bar to belly up at. Sure it was a plastic Irish pub look, but the folk working there were all pretty cool, if not extremely knowledgeable. Never got to any food this first trip, so I’ll possibly be rerating at a later date. It was, per usual for me, all about the beer, and I tried all ten that they had on tap. They’re all solid, if somewhat uninspired, and most seem to have a citric undertone coming from the house yeast. Still, I spent under five bucks (minus the tip, of course) to try all ten, so I’ve got to say that I like the place. | | StewardofGondor (122), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin | | July 18, 2005 Nice suburban building / brewpub with a clean, classy Irish-themed atmosphere. Our server was a little chatty but he did the job just fine. Had one of everything they had on tap and was pleasantly surprised, especially with how well balanced most of the beers were. Great prices too (at least for beer.) Six 4-oz. sample glasses for $4.25. We’ll probably visit this place again. | View Page : 1 2
