Pretty cool place. Definitely out of the 70s, but they’ve got a great make your own six pack section, and lots of rare, awesome bombers. Sometimes you’ve got to watch for old stuff. But, there’s tons of great beers and sometimes have great events here (like a lost abbey release party last november).

This was conveniently close to my hotel and Durty Nellie’s for a couple weeks. It’s a large, kind of dirty, warehouse type building that wasn’t too pretty to look at. The service was good, and they were able to answer my beer questions. The beer selection was large, with much stuff available in singles, but I found a lot of dead, expired stock... they did have cool stuff like BA Allagash stuff as well. This is a good stop if you’re in the area.

Wow what a hell of a find. I was pretty impressed with their selection, however, I wonder how long things are sitting on the shelf. They are the only place in the area that has a singles selection. Pretty much anything that you can buy in a 6 pack you can get in singles. Lots of VERY SOLID BEERS and an occasional find. This place is now in my regular rotation.

LOL, frankenkitty talked about the 70s atmosphere. When we walked into the store they had disco playing. It was funny.

Very old style feel to the place, almost musty. Pretty good selection of singles, but you can’t break up six-packs which sucked. Plenty of stuff from Victory, Great Divide, GI, Great Divide, Great Lakes, not much from FFF or Capital though which disappointed me. Service was horrible. When I found someone working there, she seemed perturbed that I was even there, let alone asking her a question about beer. I got a short and exasperated response that "You can’t take beers from the six packs! Then how would I know how much they cost?!"

As mentioned, the retro-’70’s atmosphere is quaint if not disturbing. Brown linoleum and dark paneling seal the deal. Exterior detailing suggests this was an ex-Blockbuster with blue & gold awnings and a theatre marquee. Staff is cheerful and willing to help and offer suggestions.

A diverse beer selection is spread across several aisles. Every time I turned a corner I was pleased to find even more! (Only 2 meads though: Lurgashall and Chaucer’s. bah.) Some bottles were thoroughly stuck to the sheetmetal shelves and could only be removed with considerable pressure and a frightening "CRACK!". That and a bit of dust suggests that Dobby’s lack of rotation needs to be more skillfully disguised.

Prices were on par if not better than Suburban Chicago bottleshops. I bought a case of mixed 12’s and a case of mixed pints/750’s and spent around $75 (although I may have been a bit frugal in my choices). Stop by when you hit Brockway Chophouse 3 blocks away on the other side of Palatine Road.

I like a place that has a healthy single bottle selection. All kinds of good brews with fairly decent service. I’d drop in again if I was in the area. I’m always interested in seeing what kind of turn-around that a liquor store has on its beers.

As I walk in reminds me of when I was a kid 30 something years ago going with my dad to his liquor store. Decent selection(they carry stuff Di Carlos doesn’t,reasonable prices and the beer guy is fairly helpful. Just kinda irritating when ya drop $200+ at a shot and don’t even get a Thank You.

convenience store atmosphere and lighting, the place smells like vodka was spilled. basically the same selection as binny’s, but they sell in singles and the beer is usually 10% or so cheaper. good list below from zeswaft. also, $14 for a case of mendocino’s winter ale is Awesome.

There is a weird knight’s armor statue when you walk in and a popcorn machine which leads me to believe that this place hasn’t been remodeled since the 70’s. I have not investigated the wine or liquor but it takes up half the store. Beer selection is surprisingly big. I expected old and expired beer but I was wrong. I looked at dates on Bells, Goose Island, Victory, and Great Lakes and all had a few months left of freshness. I found Bells 7000, Expedition Stout, and 20 Aniversary; DFH 90minute, World Wide Stout, Raison D Extra; 4 Bear Republic bombers; Great Divide Bombers of Titan, Yeti, and Hercules; 3 Floyds including Black Sun, Gumballhead, Dreadnaught, Brian Boru, Alpha King; about 6 different Victory’s; About 5 different Great Lakes; Founders Breakfast Stout, Dirty Bastard, and Rubaeus; Lots of Goose Island including Demolition, Bourbon County, IIPA. Also a lot of regionals like Capital, Two Brothers, Sprecher. The imports leave a lot to be desired and not a large selection. Very few Belgians, mostly Germans and British imports. They sell a lot of beers in SINGLES! Only place in northwest suburbs I’ve found that sells singles. Most are <$1.5. They also sell GI bourbon county, IIPA, and Demolition in singles for $5. Almost everything is $1 cheaper than Binny’s. They were selling 12 packs of all Goose Islands for $9.99.
