| drowland (42), Tallahassee, Florida | | August 22, 2009 I’ve been here quite a few times while living in the QC, and it’s a pretty good place; I’ll definitely be going back whenever I visit. The ambiance is okay, nothing special. It’s a small place that gets dim at night, but it’s best to sit outside on a cooler summer day - lots of fun. The service is hit or miss with the waiters and waitresses, but the bartenders are all pretty awesome. If you’re there around closing time and are talkative, they’re likely to hit you up with some free beers or at least free samples. The selection basically entails their beers, but they’re pretty nice - I especially like the Cherry and the Stout. The food here is pretty good. I’ve had some different dishes and they’ve all been fantastic. The value is good to average - some of the food can be a bit pricey, but the beers are average for the area. Overall, a grand little place just off the river with some good beers and great food! | | esjaygee (103), Oak Creek, Wisconsin | | February 1, 2009 Kind of a ghost town area right next to the might Mississip’. Ho hum building and the wait staff wasn’t terribly pleasant or unpleasant but kind of just there. No real knowledge of the beer. When I asked what the special beer was, she commented with "the special". Isn’t that special? It was the Downtown Brown, perhaps named after Tim Reid’s character in my favorite show of all time (Simon & Simon), but me thinks not. Anyway, the beer was forgettable at best but the fresh hand made pretzel was pretty good. IT was here I found out Michael Redd tore his ACL and MCL and will be lost for the season. As one of the 12 remaining Bucks fans, that kind of but a damper on the rest of my day trip to Moline and Davenport. Speaking of those towns, the roll up shop on Sunday – nothing was open around town. And yahoo’s map directions… forget it. Right on 12th, left on 2nd, right on 14th, left on 4th, etc. Zig-zaggin’ through da ’Port. | | DrnkMcDermott (73), Downers Grove, Illinois | | August 29, 2008 Only real drawback to this place is its location. Feels like the only open business on an old, faded downtown block and downtown Davenport was never a hot social venue in the first place. Located across a busy highway from the massive parking lots for the riverboat casinos, where tourists just want to get from the bus to the boats and breathe as little fresh air as possible. Still, I thought it was pretty nice. Lightly attended, but it was a Sunday afternoon before football season. The usual brick wall ambiance, brew works was unfortunately not in view. Ordinarily I’d have the sampler, but I was in too big a rush to copy the beer list descriptions and my ratings, so I just had the Raging River. Pretty nice. Usual restaurant-priced pub grub, so I skipped that in favor of a Hardee’s Thickburger later. Worth a visit. About two blocks from the Arsenal bridge. | | marchcow (36), Coralville, Iowa | | June 15, 2007 Not a bad place to go for a brew in the quad cities. Food was not bad. Service was good. Beer was not outstanding but eminently drinkable. | NeonLX (6), Wisconsin does not count - explanation | | June 12, 2006 Stumbled upon this while we were in town for daughter’s figure skating tournament. They have a neat little outside "biergarten" but it was packed full o’ folks while we were there. So we sat inside, where it was slightly smokey from cig smoke (yuck). Decent food, efficient wait staff, and some rather good beers (tried the "Raging River" English-style ale & "Swing" lager; both pretty good). Definitely worth a visit if you find yourself in downtown Davenport. | | oldrtybastrd (24), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana | | March 15, 2006 Nice place in Davenport along the river. Had 5 house beers on tap when I was there, they were out of the Cherry Ale. Had their sampler, $1.00 per beer. Beers were great would definitely go back. | | GeneralGao (220), Iowa City, Iowa | | February 13, 2006 [ Updated April 8, 2007 ] Located in an old brick building in downtown Davenport near the Mississippi. They generally have 5-6 house beers on tap, but they don’t change them up very often and there isn’t a whole lot of experimentation with different styles going on. Iowa’s crappy beer law probably has something to do with that. If you go across the river the breweries are much more active. I have never eaten here. The beer is okay...some better than others. It’s not far off Interstate 74 and worth a visit if you’re going through town. | | heemer77 (171), Savannah, Missouri | | July 13, 2005 Went here to try a few and meet up with Duane. Small and busy. Right across the street from a casino. Clean appearance with reasonably priced sampler glasses. Staff was helpful, but not the most attentive. Good food. | | barleyPops (58), Quad-Cities, Illinois | | June 18, 2005 visited here several weeks ago on a friday night with a group of friends. Other than being crowded and noisy, which is to be expected on the weekend, I’m looking forward to eating and drinking here again. While I thought the beer was average, at best, the food was deicious! | | igneous1 (26), Davenport, Iowa | | April 25, 2005 i’ve been here a couple times. food is average as are the beers, and the service. the quesadilla was tasty enough though. i’ve had about 4 or 5 of their beers, but i’ve only rated one as i didn’t take notes on the others. |
