In the lower city close to the sea. So close to the fishing boats that the place smells like fish. Either that or it’s the smell of the fishermen than hang around there. Because that’s what this place seemed to me. A cheap bar for the local workers (fishermen and others) to have a cheap pint and a cheap meal. Not a touristy bar. Affordable beer at $4/pint, the cheapest I’ve seen in town. Cheap full meal for $10 or less. No quality food here. My girlfriend’s plate was so-so but my Reuben was original and quite good considering the cheap price. Rather large, probably sits 150 or so. Typical american restaurant-pub decoration and atmosphere. Some TVs on sports channel here and there. Classic rock music on low volume. About 30 taps of basic session beer. Standard Maine micros (Shipyard, Atlantic, Bar Arbor, Seadog, etc.) along with standard imports (Bass, Harp, etc.). I don’t remember seeing a single strong beer or very hoppy beer or original beer. My pint of Atlantic Coal Porter was not in very good shape. Bottle menu has a few common Maine micros and a bunch of macros. Bottom line, worth a visit only if you need a cheap pint and a cheap meal. If you have more than $20 in your wallet I don’t see a reason to go there.

A great place to meet friends and just hang out. Beer selection is good, food is good pub food, loud but conversation friendly and everyone from strangers to the employees are all having fun.

Great location on the harbor a few blocks down from a truly remarkably bakery and an excellent small beer store called Downeast. Given its location, selection of taps with local focus and killer beer price specials Dewey’s is a great place to have a few pints. Decent atmosphere with old hardwood floors. The service is sad and standoffish.

Decent place to drink a beer. Service was kind of lousy - some kid who obviously didn’t want to be there. Selection was sizeable, if lacking in truly special items. But it’s a nice place to try a few different Maine brews while bumming around downtown Portland.

Stopped in to get a beer on the way to the car. Average interior, lots of room. Fair selection of local stuff, but overall not very interesting. At least they had some Cadillac Mountain Stout. I wasn’t terribly disappointed, but that was only because I expected this to be a run of the mill bar and not something that actually had stuff that I liked. Otherwise, I’d skip it in the future

I visited over the Memorial Day weekend. The selection of beers was most the readily available Maine and NH beers with nothing really unusual on tap. Popcorn was good as was my dinner. Except for the food, there are better places to find good beer in the Portland area.

Well located in Portland, it is very spacious. Now for the rest, the service was slow, the food below average the beer selection was good. I look forward to going back to Portland but not this place.

I stopped into this place with three of my fellow beer travelers for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The bartender actually knew her beer and was very friendly. The beer selection was great, with something for everyone. A large bottle selection too. The food was above average and good. Definately a great local, with a mixed crowd. If you only have the time for one place skip the Great Lost Bear and check out this place. It’s worth your time.
