11 reviews for Ramshead Tavern & Fordham Brewing Co.
TheBigSmooth (2), California does not count - explanation | | May 20, 2009 I had high hopes for this place, but I just can’t give Ram’s Head too much praise.
The service has never been great, especially if you are sitting outside.
The beer list is decent but not stellar. They have too many mediocre options on the World Beer Tour. Do you really want to have to drink Miller Light, Bud Light and other major American macro brews on the beer tour?
The biggest thing for me is the overall vibe, maybe this is a problem that I have with Annapolis in general.
It just doesn’t have that “warm” feeling you want from a neighborhood bar. I think a bar needs that hard to define vibe that makes you want to sit down and chill for the evening.
I have tried hard to be pro Ram’s Head, but I just can’t give it my support.
| | FanwickMike (33), | | September 21, 2008 beer tour 09/20/08Ordered beer sampler, 6 beers, 5 Fordham, one Old Dominion. Light lager was surprisingly good, some hop taste and mild malt. Helles was similar in taste and nature. Copperhead was OK. Tavern ale had strong hoppiness, very good. Old Dominion stout was well done also. Food (Fish+Chips) was OK, lots of batter , not as much fish. My wife’s crab melt was pretty good. Outdoor location was very nice, and a beautiful night for it as well.
Hostess was busy with several tables, but kept up with all of us. A pretty good value.... | | Braudog (478), Dayton, Ohio | | November 11, 2007 [ Updated November 12, 2007 ] Visited with two other couple on a busy Saturday night, drinking at both the bar and with our dinners in the dining room. The beers, well, they all taste the same. The food well, it was just OK. The service was good at first, then steadily faded. I’m sorry, but I expect the wait staff in a brewpub to know beer, at least in basic terms. Instead, when my friend said she liked pilsners, our waitress recommended the Tavern Ale, probably their ONLY beer with any flavor, and a NW hoppiness, over a light beer and a lager. Unbelievable. What sealed it for me was the waitress reaching her arm thru my burrito to place someone else’s plate. Gross. Not that good, overall. A squandered location and beautiful brick building. The outdoor area is gorgeous, with great plantlife and vines all over the place, and nice low level lighting also. The beer selection was 5-6 strong, ranging from average to very good. The food was outstanding. I got seafood pasta that was just loaded with seafood. Well worth a trip. | | hoplover406 (24), Crofton, Maryland | | May 5, 2007 Annapolis is very fortunate to have the Rams Head Tavern, there’s nothing else like it here. It’s located in the historic downtown area in an interesting, and large, building that is actually a stop on the walking ghost tour of Annapolis. There are several parts to this pub and is the largest in town. Their beer(Fordham) is OK / Decent (I have not had all of their brews) and they have a pretty good selection of beers from around the world(over 100). Check out the beer garden out back it’s a neat spot. Also try the basement pub, cramped but friendly. The food is generally great and a little pricey too. I like their crab dip and crab melt sandwich. You can get growlers to go here because they do some brewing on site. DEFINATELY the first, and probably the only, place you need to go to drink good beer in Naptown | | Capa (80), Yokosuka, Japan | | July 26, 2006 Spent a few hours in the nice outdoor beer garden. The beer was very good, and the waitress was knowledgeable. Food was very tasty as well. The atmosphere is great, nice relaxed and friendly. A great place to have a beer. | | donrajin (47), Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina | | August 21, 2005 The beer was decent, but nothing great. We went between lunch and dinner, so there were very few people and we only stopped in for a beer and didn’t sample the food. | | Holdwine (12), Beertimore, Maryland | | August 8, 2005 Nice place. Great food with a lot of variety. Pumps their own, decent, brews. Service is topnotch. It is connected to a music hall, so dinner, beer and music is the perfect night. | bleumoon137 (4), Brooklyn Park, Maryland does not count - explanation | | July 9, 2005 The house seasonals are some of the best in the region, especially the Wisteria Wheat and the Calvinator. Other seasonal wheats are also top quality. My favorite year-round house beers are the Helles, Blue Oyster Stout and Tavern Ale. Locals prefer the Stale (you’ll have to ask). Nothing beats a Wisteria Wheat with an order of calamari and everything nachos in the beer garden. This place has something for everyone. Outside dining, friendly bar atmosphere, "dungeon" bar, restaurant dining and an intimate live music venue featuring internationally recognized acts. Great happy hour deals and local music outside on the weekends and in the basement later in the evening. One of my favorites. | | urbnhautebourg (10), Annapolis, Maryland | | July 7, 2005 My hometown brewpub. This has a very nice beer garden in the back with overhanging vines providing shade in the summer. They also have outdoor heaters when it is cooler. The basement bar is dark, old and perfect for winter drinking days. Lots of great, very old German beer coasters line the ceiling. The house beer can be tremendous. The Helles is wonderful--expect much better than you get from the bottle version, as the bottle is pasteurized. In the draft version, you will see some real genius. Their seasonals can be remarkable as well--the Calvinator, Maibock and the Pils are especially tasty. They also have bottles, but the variety hews close to the popular good imports (Ayinger, Youngs, etc). This is a place I can take my young daughters during the day as well as a great place for a night out alone with my wife. |
