| Sammy (275), Toronto, Ontario | | June 27, 2008 Kind of an ideal neighborhood bar. The guys werer middle aged plus, the music a little too rock for them or anywhere. Around for 5 years, and Babe Ruth’s reincarnation at the bar. COmpetitive 3 pints for $5. About a dozen taps, mostly craft with a decent assortment. ABelgium, a stout, a Rogue. I was amused. Fresh beer, perfect pours. Nothing to blow me away, but a large friendly bar, home away from home in a rvived port area. | bma4573 (1), Mechanicsville, Maryland does not count - explanation | | February 22, 2008 Ended up here after Max’s Belgian Beerfest 2008. Made it in time to still be within Happy Hour. What an awesome deal, I got 3 drafts for $4. I got a Troegs Nugget Nectar, Brewers Art Resurection & a Victory Hop Wallop all for $4. I was impressed by the selection. The food was really good to. I’d definitely like to go back and would definitely recommend this place. | beauregard (2), Maryland does not count - explanation | | February 11, 2007 I end up at Mahaffey’s a lot. The beer selection, the excellent food, the events, there are many reasons to stop by for a drink. The beer list often leans toward east coast microbrews, complimented by many imports from Belgium and other parts of Europe. The selection includes about 12 taps, a beer engine and about 80+ bottles. The drafts also rotate weekly, and countertop firkin casks appear occasionally. Wayne, the owner, is always present. After a few months of visiting Mahaffey’s regularly, you’ll have sampled more microbrews, real ale, and more Belgian beers than you could have at practically any other bar. Thre is also a beer club, and you can track your progress, beer by beer, on the website.
The food at Mahaffey’s is excellent. There’s a great list of specials most nights in addition to the regular menu of upscale pub food. The four-course meals prepared for the beer tasting events are fantastic. I’ve never seen a better deal anywhere than the beer tasting events which are routinely put on at Mahaffey’s. You are always given a dozen or more generous samples with a superb paired meal, and depending on the theme, the guest could be Hugh Sisson from Clipper City, or Rudi Ghequire from Rodenbach. The beer tasting crowd is always a fun bunch.
Mahaffey’s has become my favorite beer bar in Baltimore. If you like beer, you really have to check it out for yourself. | bmalcom (1), Penn State, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | October 10, 2006 Very nice selection of beers for my taste... big beers! I made if for steak night (Tuesday) and it was really good. Beer selection is good sized and Wayne knows his menu. He also asked my name and actually used it the entire night. I came down from Penn State for continuing education and it was worth the extra 40 minute (round trip) drive and tolls for dinner. Help keep this place going!! | | guzzler67 (25), Hanover, Maryland | | September 8, 2005 [ Updated February 8, 2009 ] Exactly the type of place you would like to visit for great beer, good food and friendly atmosphere. Owner and staff will win you over instantly. Selection is limited by the number of taps (18 + a hand pull) but no macro swills. Occasional firkin. Bottle selection is diverse, large and continues to grow. They have a "beer club" and sponser numerous tastings year round, including a block party. Current menu emphasizes cajun/creole cuisine. Don’t miss Steak Night on Tuesday’s and wing night on Wednesdays. Should be included on any beer tour you might be planning in Baltimore. Short drive from the Inner Harbor and just around the corner from the Fells Point area of the city. Canton Square is a block away if you want to further indulge in local ambience. | | CharmCityHops (32), Maryland | | July 18, 2005 [ Updated August 3, 2005 ] The best beer bar in Canton and one of the best in Baltimore. Mahaffey’s is tucked away on a side street between Canton square and the Safeway. Warm pub ambience with tin ceilings, lots of dark wood, and a mural in the back. Wayne and his staff know their beer. Taps change as the keg kicks and Wayne stocks only premium bottles that rotate often as well. Food is well done pub grub. Gets a little crowded and busy on karaoke nights, but is usually just fine. |
