| chriso (164), London, England | | October 14, 2009 Tours are now only available on Saturday and Sunday. Other days (except Monday when it is closed) there is a free tasting at 4pm plus an extra one at 2pm on Fridays. Went for the free 4pm tasting on a Thursday as it fitted in nicely with the free Thursday evening admission to the nearby Institute of Contemporary Art. As the tasting was free, I can’t fault it for value for money. Otherwise nothing to get too excited about. Although scheduled to start at 4pm, the tasting didn’t get underway until 4.15. It was preceded by a 5 minute spiel about the brewery and interrupted by another 5 minute "explanation" of the beers, which largely consisted of saying how great they all are - apparently Harpoon Cider is "the most authentic there is"! So, as the finish time was 4.50, the actual tasting window available was less than 30 minutes. They had the Leviathan DIPA and the two latest 100 Barrel releases on tap (good to get the Helles Blond Bock) plus the recently introduced UFO Pale Ale, alongside the standard range. The main benefit to me was being able to rate the crappier beers without having to buy them. I managed to try everything I needed as I had had most of the beers before but unless the number of punters is quite low (and they start the tasting on time) I think you might struggle if you wanted to try all the beers on tap. Not an essential stop but it is a freebie so I’m not one to complain. | ohiobrewman (4), Hubbard, Ohio does not count - explanation | | August 13, 2009 No food and The family and I were very hungry and it took forever to find this place. Basically just a tasting room that sells their beer and merch. with a cool view of the brewery. I really like the beer but not impressed with the facility. | | Crafty07 (11), Florence, Kentucky | | August 7, 2009 fun 1/2 open bar tasting session for 5 bucks is the highlight of this out of the way brewery in Boston. We had 13 taps we could choose from when we were there..i tried them all. Impressive. the ’spokesman’ was full of himself but it was worth it to taste offerings I can’t get where I live. Impressive! | | jredmond (37), New Jersey | | May 31, 2009 [ Updated June 23, 2009 ] Great tour - short, fun, and to the point. The 15 minute open bar is definitely the highlight. With your free sample glass you are encouraged to sample all of their beers on draft. I believe they had about nine or ten when I was there. | ThatGuySteve (6), New York does not count - explanation | | May 30, 2009 Fun tour, you get to try ’green’ beer straight from fermantation. For $5 you get a tasting glass and a half hour to try as many beer types as you can. They have 10 on tap to try.
read some other comments, just wanted to say that I went on a full tour on a Sat. | | GeneralGao (220), Iowa City, Iowa | | May 2, 2009 Visited on a Sunday for the brewery tour. Not the easiest place to get to but taxi cabs do wonders. The walk from the South Station T stop is somewhat long but pleasant. The tour was fairly ideal as far as tours go. Quick, entertaining, and informational for the casual beer fan with minimal company propaganda. You get a free tasting glass and sample their beer at the end (13 taps the day I visited). We even had a taste of the IPA directly from the bright tank. All of this for a mere $5. They don’t serve food but there are a few decent restaurants in the general vicinity. They do not have a liquor license, so you can’t sample the beer unless you take the tour. As far as brewery tours go this was a good one. Wish they had a taproom. | | PJClarke (15), London, England | | April 11, 2009 Damn this place was warm. The beers were good with a wide variety of them on. It was a free tasting which is a bonus but beer buying was limited to six packs which was pretty lame. The little chap could talk too and his spiel was all a little self-important. | | 6ROW (25), corpus christi, Texas | | January 28, 2009 This brewery really has no tour just a tasting room with big windows. | stev31h (2), , Massachusetts does not count - explanation | | December 15, 2008 Free beer tasting, some rare harpoon beers you wont see anywhere else, and some fun facts about the brewery. |
