Stopped in on a Sunday night on the ride home. Place was busy, particularly the bar area - very loud too. The "seat yourself option" meant we waited a while for service. Our server was kind and efficient but whether it was the busyness of the night or the operation of the kitchen, everything seemed to take a while; from drinks to food. Food was average, typical of any other bar and grill on State St., though I might opt for somewhere else if dining. Good snacking foods to go with your drinks though. Drinks. Now that’s the saving grace of Ashley’s. With 70 taps (several regulars and about a dozen rotating) and another 90 bottled varieties, Ashley’s has something for everyone - all of it organized by beer type on the menu. I enjoyed a Creme Brule Stout from Southern Tier and the Edmund Fitzgerald Porter from Great Lakes Brewing; both were solid, though the stout was a little too sweet. I did find the price to be on the higher side ($6 for the stout in what appeared to be a champagne flute instead of a true pint glass...smaller, it seemed) but to carry that many brews is probably costly. I guess you pay for the wide selection. Go if you’re looking to try something new but not the best place for a real meal, in my opinion.

Outstanding bar in beautiful Ann Arbor. Lots of people here always. Decent sized bar, with lots of tables. Lots of taps. Lots of bottles, though the bottles are the Shelton brothers lineup that can be bought elsewhere. Bartenders are very knowledgeable about the beers and the craft beer scene. I heard it rumoured, and I did see staff sit down with people and help host little parties of people. Great little street with little groceries, Ben and Jerries, parking available. Mostly local Michigan stuff, but there were some good nationals as well, i.e. Southern Tier creme brullee. An ongoing craft beer party. The food is supposed to be very decent.

Ashleys has a great selection of beers. Some of them are expensive, but not that much different then what you would pay at any other bar. Lots of local brews on tap as well as some non local ones. Bottles to go too! I didn’t get a chance to eat anything which probably explains why I got drunk so fast. I went on a friday after work, it was very crowded and loud. The bar is a little smaller then I expected, but still looks like it could hold quite a few people. I’ll definitely be back. The only downside is that they don’t fill growlers. Which isn’t incredibly uncommon for a bar, but as this bar has more beers on tap then most breweries do, I would think this would be something they might want to consider offering some day.

Feels too crowded. Not enough wait staff. Wonderful beer selection, but a bit pricey. Like the Westland location much better.

Stopped here for a couple hours while on a Michigan beer road trip. Very cool looking inside. Great selection of taps from mostly around Michigan, but some other stuff as well. Also had a nice bottle selection, but were out of a couple of the rarer things we asked for. Either way, I can’t complain. It was a fantastic couple of hours of drinking and we couldn’t believe how cheap it was when we left. Would definitely go back.

By far the best selection of any bar in Ann Arbor. Unfortunately it is right on campus and can get quite a bit wild and loud on a weekend evening and that kind of kills any ambiance. The service is quite slow. I’ll put up with it though for the great selection even at steep prices. By far my favorite Ann Arbor establishment.

Stopped by here today on a trip to Michigan. Very, very good selection - beyond excellent compared to the average bar. Atmosphere was nice, a good spot for a drink and some food. Service was a little spotty. Food was good. Sampled some Kuhnhenn, Dragonmead, Arcadia, and Golden Cap. Lots of stuff on the beer list in bottles. Excellent selection on tap. Food was pretty good to. Definitely worth a visit.

Expensive but wow, you’ll never get a better selection of beers in a bar! Really cool place too, festive and always packed with friendly people. The pine panelling and rougth tables and seats make a great ambiance for draining a few.

Great college bar with an awesome selection of beers. Nothing fancy here, but they don’t act like you are supposed to be impressed. Wait staff is friendly, if over worked. If you want to try some great beers in a relaxed atmosphere this is the place.

As a student in Ann Arbor, this was my home away home. They have a unreal selection of premium brews on tap. Rare micros, to Belgians, and imports, ALL on TAP (72 total) ! They also have brewing events about once a month, reps from the major micros come in with rare kegs (90 Min from DogFish Head - HopSlam and Expedition Stout from Bell’s - Anny Ales from Stone). I graduated two months ago and miss Ashley’s Bar. Gotta stop by and check this place out. The pesto fries are worth a try.
