Went to Cloverleaf Fine Wine based on reviews. Was told that the store a this location closed a while ago and just recently relocated and reopened in Royal Oak. Unfortunately, I had another appointment to keep so I could not stop at new location. I guess they do not appreciate the ratebeer fans due to lack of interest updating there information. 5/30/08 update - Finally made it to the New Royal Oak location and was extremely dissappointed. Small parking lot, Stairs going down into store. Hell with a stroller. Prices are higher than Champane’s on Beer and Wine. If I am stuck in Royal Oak, I will go to Holiday otherwise I am staying with Champanes. Do not understand how they are rated so high compared to other area beer stores must be the old ratings previous location.

A very small store with an outstanding selection of beer. The sign says 150 beers available and it seems accurate. But all 150 are outstanding beers. A great, concise wine selection as well. The service is fantastic, although the hours are kind of horrific. They close at 5pm Sat and Sunday.

Look for directions on the website. There wa construction at the time which meant a little confusion to a first-timer. A better than average place to buy beer, with a BA working here. Other great features are: the ability to buy singles; choice of outside the fridge beer; some harder to find beers carried; lots of parking; and reasonable prices compared to say New York State and Premier in particular. Putnam had a couple of last bottles of stuff put aside for someone who would appreciate them, and I do. Merci! It was very good to be able to run a chat with a very knowledgeable person, and he was able to carry on a wine conversation at the same time. This is akin to writing with both hands-at the same time.

Small place but well lit and an excellent slection. Founs some nice stuff there that I haven’t found anywhere else around here. I didn’t have a chance to talk to the staff but they were courteous and asked me several times if I needed any help. Nice place, I will definately be bcak there many more times!

This is the store you want to go to if you are looking for that rare beer find. The guys are friendly and very helpful. They even ordered me my favorite beer that no one in the area has anymore. I highly recommend them!!!

Great Belgian selection, with a nice attention to detail and a very friendly staff. Light lighting and a 60-65 degree temperature is what I liked so much about this place. The beer selection was great, with an emphasis on imports, but a nice selection of American craft as well. I was hoping to find some Founder’s bottles here, like Black Rye, Impy and Devil’s Dancer, but they didn’t have it. That’s my only complaint.

Nice place, with a good selection that is constantly improving. Every time I go back there they have got something new. Fairly priced. Nice staff that will walk the store with you and comment on anything you ask.

What Putnam and crew lack in quantity, they more than make up for in first-hand experience, quality, attention to detail, customer feedback, and about every other criteria you could possibly look for in a high-end beer/wine store.
The beer advocate rankings are posted (as of the date the sign was posted) along with Putnam’s own tasting notes which are, as anyone who’s met him can tell you, fun; unique; and generally right-on.
For those interested in things other than bottles, Putnam makes most of his distributor’s keg list available as well at a very reasonable mark up (e.g., 30L of Hoegaarden for like 80 bucks or so). So for parties, family occassions, etc. when you need to introduce Uncle Johnny to a beer other than Miller Lite, Cloverleaf’s your place.
If you live in the Metro Detroit area and are a fan of beer, wine, or liquor, you owe it to yourself to swing by.

Awesome bottle shop. Oh how I wish we had something like this in Ontario. Fantastic selection of imports and regional micros. reasonable prices, actually cheaper than other stores I’ve been to in Greater Detroit. The great thing about this store is that everything is available in singles! Highly recommended.

This place is awesome. The best I have seen in the Detroit so far. In fact, Putnam opened an 84 (or 88, don’t recall) JW Lee’s Harvest while I was there. A class guy with a nice selection. Stop by if you are in the area. Most Bell’s singels are around $1.57.
