49 reviews for Champane’s Wine Cellars
| Sammy (275), Toronto, Ontario | | December 20, 2009 [ Updated December 21, 2009 ] My first and certainly not last visit. On the way from Canada, new Sarnia highway 402, and on the way to Kuhnhenn. A large store, dedicated to wine, however increasingly craft beer is making a show, and the equivalent of 8 rows of beer. Michigan is the main event, and Michael, the manager, will break up any 6-pak. He did this in droves, perhaps with my suggestion, for the Short’s 6-seasonal. Prices were decent, and it is easy to shop here. Several harder to finds, like Arbor sours and some Mikkeller that did not come New York State way. | | satan165 (62), River Grove, Illinois | | November 22, 2009 massive joint, with a small (in proportion to liquor/wine) section on beer. belgians and other imports are pretty weak but good focus on american brewers, michigan espically. giant stuffed lions and tigers? got em. kuhnehn? not so much (only the raspberry eisbock) though the brewery is close enough i should have just went there. | wmiddendorff (1), Michigan does not count - explanation | | November 19, 2009 Michael is a wealth of beer knowledge and excruciatingly friendly. On most items you would have a hard time finding a better price and they stock damn near everything that is made available to southeast Michigan. I have been to this store a number of times and have never been disappointed unless I arrived a little too late to pick up a hard to find beer.
My only complaint is that their hours are a little strange considering the type of store that it is.
Definitely a place you NEED to stop at if you are ever in the metro Detroit area. | | jeffmw (14), | | July 17, 2009 This was one of two bottle shops we stopped at during our Michigan brewery tour. The place is massive with a ton of room dedicated to wine and liiqour but still plenty of room for beer. They had a vast array of stuff - some of the more interesting things we found were Kuhnhenn Raspberr Eisbock (in the front cooler), the Kuhnhenn Cassis, some Girardin Gueuze, some limited edition Avery stuff, and a big collection of Michigan brews -- really they had just about everything you’d want to find. Like most of the other people on here are saying, they don’t split sixes, but the guy helping us said they do split Michigan stuff, which is good b/c that’s what we were there to get. The help was wonderful and very knowledgable. This was a definite good stop along the way. | TC (1), , does not count - explanation | | June 19, 2009 I work 10 minutes away from this place and unfortunately didn’t realize it was there until 3 months ago. Wow, was I happy to find this place by total accident ( Made a wrong turn ). When I went in, I was very happy to see all the brands of beers that I love and tons of Belgian beers and others that I’ve heard and never had the chance to buy....I must of been there for an hour and didn’t even have anything in my cart yet : )
One of the employees must of noticed me walking around looking at all the beers for over an hour and asked if I need help and I explained that I’m new at this level of selection and I’m not sure where to start. He was great! Asking me for the ones I’ve had before and then referred to me the ones that are very similar or "maybe better". I took his recommendations and bought a bunch. Lets just say.....Every friday after work there is a guy thats reading beer labels for an hour at this store - That would be me. AWESOME PLACE! | | BeerBaron617 (20), Novi, Michigan | | May 8, 2009 [ Updated June 28, 2009 ] I went to this place literally because of the reviews on this site, and I happen to have a friend that lives on the east side, so it was perfect. So we walked in what literally looked like a grocery store for wine and other alcoholic beverages, and was also shocked and amazed at the "homey" atmosphere. They had a rich array of taxidermy-ized wildlife, inclduding giraffes, lions and bears, which was quite entertaining. But besides that, their beer selection was far better than average, although not the best I’ve seen in the metro Detroit area. They did have a decent selection of proper beer glasses, which definitely earned brownie points. So we picked up a couple glasses, a nice rare bottle of DFH Pangaea, and went to the register. The lady in front of us asked the clerk if he knew the beer guy, and he said he was the beer guy, so after her transaction, I made clear that I was there for the beer, and said I have to shake your hand as the beer guy, simply based on the great looking store, and amazing prices. If your in the area, you should probably stop on by. Cheers! | | swoopjones (115), Buffalo, New York | | April 13, 2009 Good selection of Michigan beers(Shorts, Bells, Dark Horse, Arcadia etc) Plenty of Rogue, Stone, DFH, Southern Tier) Decent Belgians. Lots of English/Germans. Nice selection of some Mikkeller stuff i haven t seen in Buffalo | tomspalla (2), Orange Beach, Michigan does not count - explanation | | April 9, 2009 Almost like a warehouse. The wine selection is incredible. The beer selection is very good, but dwarfed by the wine. The prices are some of the best I’ve come across. | | punkrkr27 (22), Berkley, Michigan | | March 19, 2009 Great selection. Michael is very friendly and helpful. Easily the best prices in the Metro Detroit area. There’s a great selection of glassware, cheese, and snacks to accompany the great beer. Single bottle selection is small but high quality. As a bonus, their wine selection is absolutely gigantic. | | dmschefke (34), Eastpointe, Michigan | | March 5, 2009 [ Updated July 28, 2009 ] Great selection, prices are unbeatable. Product moves fast, so most are fresh. This is good and bad though, it is nice to sometimes find aged beer at a place. For being so close, I couldn’t ask for a better place though. Michael is very knowledgeable and willing to help. Very little singles selection though. |
