| phaleslu (94), Cincinnati, Ohio | | July 17, 2009 I’ve heard that endless red tape caused them to ditch plans to build in the City and go with Maplewood instead. Unfortunate, but it’s become the anchor to the Maplewood strip along Manchester. Excellent food, as they’ve focused on using local farms and quality ingredients. Good atmosphere, if a little corporate (probably because it’s new-ish). If they salvaged any of the old Shop ’N Save store, you can’t really tell. Not as many Schlafly selections as the Tap Room, so the beer choices are exactly as expected. I’d go with the Tap Room instead of this one if I were visiting St. Louis and only had time for one, but still recommended. | | lizziec (10), , | | June 17, 2009 One of the best local beer places. Schlafly has great selection of beer, something for everyone. Great patio and great food. | | grobeen (10), , Illinois | | June 15, 2009 Fantastic place to hang out, and drink some freshly made Schlafly brews. Huge outdoor patio and nice laid back atmosphere. Food is awesome, staff is friendly. Highly recommend! Been there a number of times, and have yet to be dissapointed with the beer, food, or staff! | | HomeBrewHawk (15), De Soto, Kansas | | March 18, 2009 My family and I visited for lunch on a weekday. They were doing some renovations to the brewery, so there were not offering tours, but that was okay. I was a little disappointed with the beer selection, I thought they would have some of the current seasonals on tap as well as in bottles. Also they had no root beer or birch beer available for the kids.
Food was decent, nothing spectacular. Service wasn’t that great. Our server disappeared for a while after we ordered a beer. The place wasn’t that busy. I’m a big fan of Schlafly’s beers, but my wife and I were both a bit let down by our visit here.
| jmw141 (9), Canton, Illinois does not count - explanation | | January 28, 2009 Toured here while on business in STL. The tour was free and given by a young guy who knew his stuff. The tour group was small, 6 people. However it was 2pm on a Friday afternoon during poor weather, so I wasn’t expecting a huge crowd. Location housed a brewery, restaurant, bar, and gift shop. Tour guide stated he used to do tours for Samuel Adams and Schlafly didn’t even do tours until he came around. He was funny and informative. Very up close and personal tour of the facility. 3 small samples were provided, along with barley grain sampling, hop smelling, and other ingredient smelling. The gift shop was cheap and included many reserve and special beers. Glassware and other breweriania was cheap. I purchased a taster glass and pint glass for $7, plus a mix-a-six. I cannot comment on the bar/dining. | laguerita (8), Chicago, Illinois does not count - explanation | | January 10, 2009 decent spot. the food was alright, a bit of a weird selection...lots of random dishes execution was good. overall it was satisfying but i wasn’t really impressed | | NobleSquirrel (55), Chicago, Illinois | | January 5, 2009 Overall, pretty nice place. It was cool to be at a brewpub that was actually the production brewery. Reasonably well appointed, interesting menu that featured local ingredients. Beer was served pretty cold, though. But overall, can’t complain. | | bhensonb (291), Woodland, California | | September 15, 2008 Located far from downtown. So there is a lot of parking. All rather modern. There’s a museum section. Like 5% of the AB brewery tour display - but it covers old St Louis brands. Good. Service in the restaurant area was very good. Appetizers (some at least) were large enough to serve as meals. Some ales were indeed surprisingly good (e.g. pumpkin ale). Great place for food and beer. | | JoeinUccle (138), Brussels, Belgium | | August 20, 2008 Nice enough pub in the near suburbs with a big terrace. The Schlafly beers always kind of disappoint me in terms of quantity and interest... Usually nothing too exciting on tap. But some interesting bottles for sale in the shop, and some cool T-shirts. Useful: Wear covered shoes if you expect to get a brewery tour. Very friendly people working here. Nice exhibit on St. Louis beer history. | | BrewCzar (19), St Louis, Missouri | | July 12, 2008 Very good Brew Pub & Restaurant. About a dozen brews on tap, all very good representations of their style. Good selection of beer to purchase in the gift shop or purchase a growler from the bar. Decent menu designed around local produce and meats (all organic). A completely menu selection from the Schlafly Taproom downtown. |
